so the best conclusion is if you are going to pop open your battery check with the manufacturer on the proper procedure ect.

The Exide Nascar Select I have in the Expedition has removable caps. But since its operating conditions aren't extreme, I've never had the caps off and probably never will. Exide only recommends checking the levels if operated under extreme heat for extended periods (as I posted earlier in the thread) which doesn't describe the operating conditions for the truck at all

I assume it varies based on manufacturer in some instances because my ever start has caps that can be removed but it says not to.

Yes, it is DEFINITELY manufacturer dependant as to whether they recommend it or not.

I would consider an Oddyesy but more expensive and same warranty and I do not believe they rate all that high in Consumer Reports./

Here is the Panasonic that was OEM in my Mazda 3. It started cranking slowly and I replaced it just so my wife doesn't get stranded in winter.
Two cells were down to where plates were exposed. I topped it off with bottled water and will put it on a charger to see if it holds the charge. If it does, maybe I will find use for it after all.

This is Solite battery, completely sealed.

You should use distilled water, NOT bottled water.
