Turbo no longer availible in Australia due people refusing to buy it becuase its not tradition of the original 500, 2 cylinder model is back to please the Aussies. Abarth version is 60k here, plus taxes. for 60k i would buy a shelby replica, or a new HSV. Thanks for your imput though, i wish i had more money cash

I thought I saw the model on the turbo standard trim was like 16,500, but 60k for abarth, your right for that money if it were me, I'd start with the 2000-2004 celica gt-s(8200rpm red line, formula1 tech metal matrix cylinder liner, which is very rare on a street car, 100hp/liter NA, can be had for under 7.5k), then I'd send it over to monkey wrench, they've got the same car that's making 835whp@41psi boost and capable of 202mph in standing mile. Smaller, cooler engine, making more power than corvette z06 and as fast, and well under 25k assuming a very very safe budget of 15k for parts&labor on this particular car.

Mate i only drive 4000 miles a year and plan on keeping it for 5 years. Hence why i change my oil at 1500 miles, obsession with oil

That makes more sense. Just use the recommended oil and change it annually.

The Abarth 500 1.4turbo is available, it is about $40k. You are thinking of the Abarth Ferrari 695 which is about $75k. $14k drive away is a great deal for the 500 POP. The 900cc 2 cylinder multi air turbo engine is pretty cool.

I'm hoping that the conversion from USD to AUD put the USD worth a LOT more.

I couldn't imagine paying more than $15K for something that small and impractical.

Just run the synthetic and change once a year. EASY

$14K is the drive away price including all taxes. Just like oil, we have to pay a lot more for cars than you do. Prestigious cars are enormously more expensive. Even Australian built cars are cheaper in the USA than they are here.

Your lucky that you can get the 1.2. I wanted that engine, but the engines supplied to America is the 1.4. I've got the 500Turbo and I'm not sure if that model is supplied anywhere else. My oil change indicator is set to 8000 miles or 6 months, and I'm not 100% sure why in other countries the indicators are set so high. I don't think you will have problems, but I agree with the oil change analysis maybe after the warrantee is expired. I think (at least in Great Britian) the oil sump is 3 liters, while the American version or 4. Maybe to warm the engine oil up faster to get better fuel economy. The Abarth here is around $22k for a base one, but my 500T is a bit more affordable while not sacrificing performance, if fact I like driving mine more that to its softer suspension. Good luck with the car, and post pictures if you buy it =D

Agreed...

I use that exact OCI on my daily drivers and generally log between 6 & 8K mi...

Then he would have a torque steering, wheel spinning, useless car! That's assuming he wants to dump a bunch of money into a 13 year old Toyota. That sounds like the opposite of getting a new car with a warranty for 5 years to commute in.

Whatever viscosity the motor calls for, 5w30 at the recommended intervals. Every 1500 miles is just a waste of time and oil. If you insist on doing that then the cheapest oil in 5w30 you can find.

Yep, a liquid cooled FWD car is certainly in keeping with the tradition of the original Fiat 500.
The original Topolino was a front engine RWD machine, of course.
The Nuvo 500 was a rear engined air cooled twin.
The current model is enormous compared to the earlier cars of the same model designation, and has quite a bit more than half a liter of engine displacement, from which the name "500" came.

Well, there is that.
I doubt that an old 500 would be very practical in current traffic conditions.
Too tiny and too slow.
Still, it would be fun to have a 'sixties Fiat 500, 600 or 850, or a Citroen 2 CV, or one of the last Panhards, or a real Mini, or even Honda's N600 take on the original Mini.

I don't know about the 2CV. Certainly intriguing to look at...kind of like a tuna can on wheels. I won't forget following a mom and kids in one in Germany. When they hit a tight curve it leaned like an Americas Cup yacht at full speed.

For those making fun of 500s go drive an 500T and Abarth, and then post. Then go and drive slighty modded Abarth and think again. Those little guys take leading places on track after some seriously powerfull and prepped gtrs and porsches.
