Sorry. The lexicon around here indicates rednecked-ness is something one chooses to embrace as an attitude and not a predestined blood line. So because one chooses that behavior, IMO, it's ok to criticize.

And someone who thinks they're better than someone else and who tries to bully a business who just wants to make an honest buck needs to be kicked down a notch.

So, you don't think the thug mentality is something a person chooses?

She's being charged with being separated from her child for a 15 minutes at a playground inside a gated community within sight of her apartment and the court's solution is to separate her from her child for 6 months or in another deal 30 days locked up in jail with her child locked up in a CPS boarding facility.

You've got to wonder what's going on. Maybe they'll shave the mother's head and tattoo "BAD MOTHER" on her forehead. And the two ladies that called CPS instead of dealing directly with the mother will receive a snitch award from the government for being good comrades in the governments's war against families.

Student home life (or lack of) is the single largest influence issues I'm seeing today in schools.

All my peers are honestly dedicated, effective, union teachers.

If you're a lousy teacher, you would lose your position.

My employer and our union are at ends over a contract and we're about to strike yet again.

The media seems to skip the facts about what we're fighting for.
It's NOT OK to have 35 +kids in a classroom, no library, no technology, no nurse. The lack of resources is astounding. These kids are being set up to fail before they even get into Kindergarten.

I'm a little Hindu,

Where my pants and skin don't meet,
I make my skin do.

At the school board meeting an official representative of the local Hindu community said that every Hindu child learns that poem and it does not offend anyone, especially another Hindu. The school board members following federal guidelines still expelled the child stating that this was a zero tolerance policy and they would not accept such behavior. Turns out the child learned the poem at the neighborhood day care center run by a Hindu family and taught to him by the grandmother.

Last Friday after 5 years of motions and claims and counter motions the law suit has been settled and the court finally overturned the 2010 expulsion and removed all references from the child's transcripts.

The now older child was being blocked from acceptance to a federally funded program for gifted and talented students because of this expulsion on his record and the severity of the charges. Today he was finally accepted and starts attending classes next Monday.

So other than sitting around on a discussion forum griping and whining all the time, what are you doing about it? Plan to run for the local school board and work to change things? Run for a local office, get elected, and work to make changes? Or are you one of the sheep who can spend time complaining, but can't be bothered to spend time working to make changes?

I don't see why the school would ban the kid for saying something that makes no sense.

At the very least, the school officials should've tried to find out the meaning of the poem first.

Actually my wife and I are fostering a 7 year old girl that was abandoned by her mother when the little girl was diagnosed with bone cancer and given a grim outcome. I'm spending my time fighting the system and taking care of her. Sometimes the "system" is worse than the disease. She's lost both legs and one arm to the damage caused by the cancer. I'm also a cancer patient in the same hospital with some of my own problems. Some of my posts are maybe out of frustration because I can't do more. When one is in pain time goes by at a much slower pace. Your criticism of me is maybe a bit out of contest because you don't know me but you have decided that I'm not up to your standards. That maybe true, but I'd bet a lot of people are not up to your standards and that's something you'll just have to live with. I understand it's a terrible burden having to deal with people like me that are everywhere. We can only hope that through your good grace you'll at least tolerate us and go about your business and you'll continue to enjoy the safety of an Internet connection while you reach out with your wisdom.

...Not to defend Pop_Rivit, but i think he uses his therapy dogs to help some of your peers, peoples with cancers.

Since over the years we got some glimpse from your past life, I wanted to send you my sincere support and prayers. And when you are down, don't forget you are now the sunshine for that little girl.
(I lost my dad to liver/stomach cancer and my stepdad to hospital infection).

Good grief!

Case in point I am surprised the cops were not called on me.

We went to Applebee's for dinner, my youngest at 3 believes she can run the show. We all know you give an inch to a 3 year old and it takes 1 AU in response. So she isn't sitting down, fidgeting and I give her multiple warnings. So we proceed outside so she can sit on the bench and cool off. I ask her if she brought her coat in (NO!), O well it's cold outside(55F but windy) you should have thought of that.

The amount of crying was what I expected but she realized it was warmer inside after 5 mins. The stares and some older people actually stopped to watch. She was cryin' I'M COOOLD...I kept telling her you should have thought of that before acting inappropriately in the restaurant. The one old guy just stared in disbelief that I would do that. I was hoping he would comment on something so I heard his wisdom on something that is none of his business much like the article above.

Eventually she calmed down and we went back inside. She had a happy dinner. I didn't give in and she didn't get to do whatever she wanted. I could have had CPS called I'm sure.
