I grilled a couple ribeye for dinner yesterday. I marinade my steaks, using a recipe that a friend from church gave me, probably over 40 years ago. I've made a couple minor adjustments to it, and it has become a favorite in my household.

I thought it would be fun to share the recipe, and see if any of you also have a steak marinade recipe that you really enjoy, and that you would be willing to share. Here is mine.

3/4 cup soy sauce
2 Tbs balsamic vinegar
1/2 Tbs ground ginger
1/4 cup honey
2/3 cup olive oil
1 clove garlic, crushed

The recipe originally called for cider vinegar instead of balsamic vinegar, and vegetable oil instead of olive oil. I like it this way myself, and no longer keep vegetable oil on the shelf.

I anticipate that many here will say that you only season steaks with salt and pepper, and perhaps garlic powder. That's fine too. But I want to hear about marinade recipes. What is yours?

That does sound good. Of course, the Soy Sauce is salty, and salt is great at tenderizing/seasoning meat. Soy/ginger/garlic is a wonderful combo.

There is a place called the Log Cabin Inn west of Wellsboro, PA on US-6 that serves something called the Italian Del:

"A tender, 14 oz. Rib eye marinated in our chianti, garlic and italian spice recipe."

It's good but I've never attempted to duplicate it.

I only use a marinade if I want to impart a certain flavor for a certain application. I use marinade for fajita/taco/burrito applications and that's about it.

A splash of vinegar, some citrus, garlic, a kiss of cilantro (I don't like overusing cilantro at all, but a little - just a little - can really be good. Soy and or Worcestershire if I think about it, if I don't - no great loss.

Good beef needs no help.
+1

No makeup on my steak; just coarse sea salt as soon as it comes off the grill.

Some cuts of veal are tasteless, so my wife will make a Greek dressing sans fromage for the marinade. Learned about it here on BITOG, tastes great!

I like Dale's marinade, but my go to is my brisket rub.

1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup salt
2 tablespoons of garlic poweder
2 tablespoons of onion powder
1 tablespoon of black pepper
