'Favorite oil' before joinig BITOG

Pre BITOG, it was always Quaker State because that is what the service station that I worked in during high school used. I trusted the owner and he was the type of guy to use quality products and not choose solely based on profit.

Then I found this place, and now I buy when it's cheap and stock up, so no brand preference. Currently, I have QSUD on the shelf as it was $0.65/quart. I do have some GC and BC for the Audi that was $4/qt in an OC special. 6 quarts of MC 5W-20 from the O'Reilly $5 coupons that were free.

70's Castrol GTX

80's Kendall GT-1

90's Mobil 1

Now - whatever works for the application, but still partial to M1.

Before joining BITOG, I'd buy just about any oil/filters on sale/rebate. Now, I buy just about any oil/filtes on sale/rebate but, with the sale/rebate section here at Bob's, I find them sooner

Before joining BITOG, it was whatever name brand dino that was on sale with a MIR. After joining BITOG, I have found that old habits never die.

I'm confused by this thread. The premise seems to be, or at least I assumed it to be, that, upon being educated on this website, we learn that there are a handful of oils that are just the best, and all else is junk.

Interestingly enough, what I have learned at BITOG, is somewhat different than that. Yes, there does seem to be a handful of motor oils that are held in high esteem. But there is no holy grail. It is also clear that there is a large population here that have come to know that almost any motor oil will protect their car, with some even buying what most would shun, such as Super Tech.

While many here seem to pick a few favorites, it seems there are more here that their favorite is, whatever is on sale for the best deal.

For me, visiting this site didn't change what I was buying at all. It just confirmed that, based upon my style of driving and OCI, what I was (and still am) buying is probably as good at protecting my car engines as anything else.

Teach me your ways!!! Im never able to find a deal on oil. Walmart has it all cheaper.. That's all I know.

Ever find deals on PYB?

Castrol GTX with an OCOD was my oil/filter combo. Now I prefer SOPOUS products but try to find synthetics on sale and stock up with a good quality oil filters for my little fleet.

I feel the same way. I pay attention in my local stores and never see good closeout deals. So I pay regular price at Walmart because it's the best price by far.

I used Quaker State because when I first began changing my own oil I felt it was a trusted icon brand and I liked the green color of the cans and in the next few years I was not open minded to switch before BITOG. When my local Crysler dealership started stocking Pennzoil after Crysler switched from Mobil 1 I decided to change also leaving one vehicle to Amsoil that at the next OCI will be switched to Penzoil to simplify and stock one oil as I own four vehicles.
TOTO.

Favorite oil was Castrol GTX. I steered clear of synthetic oil until I found this website. Now I only use PP, Mobil 1 or other quality synthetic oil.

Once in a while look at this sub-forum, all the sales + rebates are posted here.

Will do, thanks.

For dino it was Valvoline SAE 30 or 20W50 in my 69 dodge d100 and 67 lemans

for syn it was Mobil 1 10w30 and 5w30 in our 04 dodge srt 4.

A few people told me they knew a guy who knew this other guy that talked to a guy that used pennzoil once and it sludged up his engine.

I buy what is on sale now. Older engines get rotella.

I am using PYB I got for less than 3.00 a quart for a local SOPUS distributor. Check for one in your area.

Are you from Central Indiana?

I used to use a lot of Havoline and usally nothing less than 10w40. It was sorta my go to oil for years. Never a problem. Than my buddies and I got on Supertech conventional for a few years. A lot of the Supertech was 20w50, which I now know is needlessly thick. Now, I've been using a lot of synthetic oil that I try and buy on sale and in the weight the vehicle recommends. Not really partial to any particular brands. Still no oil related issues that I can recall but I'm sure my vehicles are happier with the correct viscosity.

BITOG did not really change my opinions or what I use, just kinda re-enforced that most commonly available oils are good products. I still have a soft-spot for Havoline, ambivalent to SOPUS, ok with Ashland, dislike BP/Castrol... not for their product but for other obvious reasons, respect Mobil. I might have more respect for Warren PP but that is about it. I guess my only real change is that I dislike PEAK but that is because of their DD marketing campaign, not BITOG related.
