Shell , because sometimes I think the station I use get non-ethanol once in a while. I will get MPG spikes for no reason every so often.

There is one Shell in Gardner KS that advertises all grades in non ethanol. They might be blowing smoke up folks rear end, because Shell is top-tier and its supposed to contain ethanol.

I keep seeking out Shell fuel as it gives me my best mileage, and my Shell Mastergard get me a 5% discount all the time. These days thats 20 cents a gallon off.

Due to my normal 20 mile drive to & from work I pass a Shell, $3.69/gal, cash or credit & a Gas-O-Rama(

), $3.58/cash-$3.63/credit. If I take a very slightly longer and somewhat slower route, which I do when I need gas I get Quickchek gas or Hess for $3.56/cash or credit. Both are newer high volume stations on a "major route". Plus one is on the same side for going to work and the other is on the same side on the way home

. I do use a maintenance dose of FP60 every fill up. Which I use no matter what brand of gas I've used over the years.

Ironically the worst mpg I've gotten was when I drove to FL from NJ last year. I filled with Shell starting in NJ and in various states. These recorded the worst mpg for highway other than when I use to use Castrol 5W-50. I've been using Schaeffer's 5W-30 with great mpg by comparison. Went back to Texaco, Chevron & Exxon and my mpg increased in similar driving for the rest of the trip. That is just MY experience with Shell. Even on the trip to FL each tank was treated with FP60.

The vehicle is a well maintained basic 1996 Ford 2.0l Zetec, manual 5 sp Contour.

From volume gasoline dealers the quality difference is generally minimal between them. All gas has to meet minimum standards now a days. It's a lot better than the 80's/90's.

Shell is beginning to be my only gas choice. I'm going to be giving Kroger a try soon though since we found out it is also Top Tier rated.

Doing manual gas mileage tracking, anytime I've used BP it gives me lower gas mileage, and by a decent amount about 3-4 MPG. I'll have to see what kind of gas mileage I get with Kroger. Maybe there are some MPG gains to using Top Tier fuel? I use Mid-Grade, I've found that it gives me better gas mileage then regular fuel. This engine prefers Mid-Grade but says regular is also suitable per the manual, I'm currently running a comparison between the two to see if there is a difference in MPG numbers and as of now the Mid-Grade gives me an advantage over regular.

Been using BJs in all cars for over a year now, cannot tell any difference over major brands purchased beforehand, absolutely no issues and it is always 10-20cents a gallon less than major brands.

I am slowly coming around to the belief that all gas is alike.

It all really depends on how the gas station keeps up maintaining their storage tanks..If not maintained properly you will get a nice tankful of dirt like some friends of mine got over the years thinking they were saving a few pennies at the pump..It costed each one of them over 1K bucks to get their car back on line.

I see some people here spiking their gas with additives when they buy cheap gas..Would it not make more sense just to buy gas from a well maintained name brand station like Mobil.

I know this is going to fall on deaf ears but is just IMHO only.

Top Tier, only. Quick Trip,Shell,Exxon. I prefer a newer station with alot of traffic.

Name brand does not mean that they have high turnover and tanks are clean. Some brand name stations have their gas priced so high, (really emphasize repairs and do not wish to push gas) that they sell little and their tanks are probably worse than a high volume off brand station.

Unlike oil I have not seen much science that shows one brand of gas is different from another via the additives etc?

Shell for me, its the cheapest for premium AND convenient at a local station.

My wife's favorite brand is wherever they have full service. And what she likes even better is the full service coupled to a credit card scanner right in the pump.

Like many have said, the cheapest.

In my area that is usually Thornton's, Murphy's (when you use some sort of Wal-Mart card to get the $0.03 discount) and Meijer (with their card, a $0.05 discount). However, there are some BP and Shell stations that are sometimes cheaper, all depends on who gets what delivery when, I guess.

Also in my area are Exxon/Mobil, Citgo, and 7-11. I'll use the 7-11 and XOM stations sometimes, but I can't bring myself to go to Citgo. I'd explain, but that would get political.....

I used to run Shell exclusively. But the mileage with Shell became awful. Then the Solo station in town began selling non-ethanol gas for all grades. I have been buying all my gas at the Solo station and the mileage is much better. All engines including my weedeater like the non-ethanol.

All you guys insisting top tier is best. Umm, how come I see non named trucks delivering fuel to the stations? Maybe Sunoco gas is the only one I actually see being delivered in a branded truck.

It's called contracted transportation.

I fill up with Shell or BP. There usually is a 1 cent per gallon differential between these brands and the competitors in the area.

IMHO, the price differential is not worth the risk of deteriorated performance.

I see the same truck leave a shell station and drive a few miles away then deliver to a 'Radiant'.

Many tankers have various compartments in that tanker. So one tanker can hold 3, 4, maybe 5 different types of gas.

Never been a chevron fan as it was never offered in the provinces I lived in before. Now it's all I use in my e30, unless I'm driving a rental car where I'll put anything in the tank that'll make the car run (whatever is cheapest).
