Shell stations have to use gas that is treated with Shell's additive. And shell stations have to pay shell for that gas.

If they use ANY other gas in there station beside Shell while there is a shell logo on the pump, there would be INSTANT changes happening at that gas station.

Same with every brand.

I personally know a man that LOST his Sunoco station in WHOLE due to this. He now runs a Citgo.

So, not to call you a liar, but. . . . . It's not something to be taken lightly.

It's against federal law.

Shell stations don't have to buy gasoline refined at a Shell refinery; the brand specific additives are added to the tanker trucks at the terminal rack. All the gasoline that's delivered in my area to all the various brands comes from one pipeline that goes to one terminal.

This has been discussed here ad nauseum and 2 members who are tanker truck drivers here have confirmed the same thing.

I know this. However, the gas from the one pipe line is treated with SHELL's additives, then it is sold by SHELL to SHELL stations. It's like Mcdonalds milkshakes. Yes, a owner of a Mcdonalds could buy any kind of milkshake mix from any food distributor, but it is NOT allowed as per the contract between the owner of the store and Mcdonalds.

Besides the contracts between gas station and SHELL, it is against federal law to advertise one thing and sell another.

Evidently, gasoline spiked with Shell's additives is being sold at a Conoco and a grocery store in my neighborhood! Or gasoline spiked with Conoco's additive is being sold at a Shell station. Or straight cheap gas is being sold at all 3!

My cars don't care what brand of gas is in the tank, only my wallet cares how much is taken out each fill up therefore I buy the cheapest gas. If price is the same then I prefer Chevron then Shell.

Whatever is cheapest.

That said, my 'favourite' gas brand, if I had to choose one, would be Petro-Canada...but it's also the most expensive a lot of the time....so I don't use it that often.

I always use Shell. It's a top tier fuel and I've never had any problems with it. I usually always buy it from a high volume station so that the fuel is fresher. Also Shell is always the cheapest for me because at the moment my Shell Saver card saves me $.10 a gallon and my Kroger card saves me another $.10 a gallon. So a $.20 per gallon savings is nice. Also Shell gives me the best fuel mileage.

I agree. Got to love those discounts! Shell and Chevron for me!

7-11 seems to have the lowest priced gas along with RaceTrac.

One thing I like about this 7-11 in my area is that I have seen a contractor replacing the filters (about the size of an FL-1A oil filter) on the gas pumps many times over the past 3 years. This is a high volume 7-11 that sells lots of gas.

My vehicles have seemed to run the best on Chevron and Exxon/Mobil gas in the past. There was a nice Chevron station where I used to live in Blacksburg, VA, but all we have down here in Fayetteville, NC, are a mess of BP stations, with a few Hess, Exxon, and no-names mixed in. There are a few Exxons around that are convenient enough (though not right around the corner) and the price is competitive, so I've started using only Exxon gas.

Just because a tanker is delivering to multiple gas stations does not mean it is delivering the same fuel.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tank_truck

Quote:
Some tank trucks are able to carry multiple products at once due to compartmentation of the tank into 2,3,4,5,6 or in some rare cases more tank compartments. This allows for an increased number of delivery options. These trucks are commonly used to carry different grades of gasoline to service stations in order to carry all calibration products needed on one trip.

Kwik Fill is what my car sees since there are 2 Kwik Fill stations I pass every day. Sunoco is overpriced, and the local Mobil always seems to reduce my fuel economy. It's more out of convenience than anything else.

On long trips the car usually sees whatever's cheapest.

I like Marathon gas. If Marathon is not available I use 7-11 gas. If I can believe what I read online, neither one uses any oil from the Middle East. They say it is all from Mexico, Canada and the USA. Marathon can sometimes be a few cents more per gallon, but that is OK with me. My truck runs fine on either brand.
