Here is a friends filter that I cut for him. Was purchased though a ford dealership where he works. At first glance it seemed fine with the typical wavy pleats. But when I looked closer I could see that the crimped end of the filter media was not sealed. You could see the metal inner tube. It’s open from end to end. It was used on a gen 3 coyote truck with a shorter interval (no more then 5k miles). I also noticed that the oval holes in the baseplate are sharp on the inside where they press against the adbv. It seemed fine though as there were no tears in the adbv as I have seen before on motorcrafts.

That seam is a failed glue job, I don’t think delta-P could cause that. Non deburred, sharp inside baseplate holes are a Puro/Mann “feature” that they can’t seem to fix either. A quality manufacturer would want to see how the glued seam failed to stick together, but Mann doesn’t qualify…

I might be far out there, maybe.... but it looks like a breach that would be held closed by oil pressure and/or flow. Yes it is a failure but I would not worry about the engine it came from.

Well, honestly I think I am going to check out. Return my 2 FL-910S to Rural King.

If Purolator/whoever can’t get MC filters right; I’ll either use Prime Guard for 4-5k oci or champ labs filters.

Sorry to rant/vent but that filter is a joke. Ford should be ashamed.

Have to agree, Adam-I wonder how my newer Wix ones will do, since Mann apparently moved production (of many Wix) to Fayetteville.

Here’s some updated pics now that it’s all dried out.

God, that’s a hell of a split (pardon my bad language moderators).

Shame MC went the 0 quality route. I’m seriously thinking of donating my 2 FL-910S to any member that wants them.

Nice photos sir

You’re very welcome sir. I always appreciate your cut and posts.

This failure I missed at first till I looked at the picture and noticed metal showing behind. Which I would have missed if it weren’t for the flash I think. So I looked closer and the whole seam is open. It is such a shame that Ford has allowed purolator to continue making faulty filters for them. I guess it hasn’t cost them enough money in warranty work to have them actually look into the issues.

Yeah, I guess Mc Doesn’t see it so turn blind eyes or sweep it under rug. Shame made in South Korea and China filters now hold up better. And that some folks hate so bad on Fram products. Even the Super Tech filters fare better

I thought the FL-910S was the shining beacon of quality in the entire Motorcraft filter lineup??? Every thread I've ever opened about the 910 seems that it is about the best quality out of every other MC filter.

How many 910s have you seen that failed. I've used them for years and never had a failure at 10K OCIs. Over the years what filter company has not had an example of a filter that had imperfections, that were posted on BITOG? Just wondering.

I’m also just wondering this: Just because Bitogers haven’t saw many FL-910S filters does NOT mean it has not happened.

Wondering as well: why is it that Korea and India and China made filters hold up equally well for same or close to similar OCI’s.

I dislike playing Russian roulette especially with Motorcraft filters history as of late.

I’m still wondering

I see tig1 is awful quiet. Must have hit a nerve. Until I see evidence that MC can make a filter that will not tear I won’t use them. You can hate me, despise me; I don’t personally give a 💩💩💩

BUT: don’t stick up for MC filters when they do fail. It’s just that simple.

No nerves hit as I don't follow BITOG as I used to. So how did you end up with two 910s if you aren't comfortable using them? I agree that I wouldn't use that MC 820 with its history as of late, but the 910s seems to have proven itself. However, using the three little cuties you used wasn't necessary with me.🙂
