This guy must be the brother of this guy from the Mustang Fourms.

My car was idling like [censored] the other day so I figured since I just got it, it may have been awhile since anyone changed the oil out. I decided to go ahead and change the oil. I used Mobile 1 synthentic oil like I was reccomended on here. Anyways, I drain out the oil and noticed it was extremely dark and even after 10 minutes of draining, it was still coming out. I decided to go ahead and flush it to make sure all the bad stuff got out. I hooked up the hose, ran water through the engine, started it up and was waiting for the water to come out clean (The engine never went above idle so I was told this would be ok). Anyways, About 3 minutes into this, then engine starts shaking and shuts off. I figured it was all cleaned out so I plugged it up, added the oil and figured I was ready to go. WRONG! The car won't freaking start now. This car has been nothing but trouble for me, I think I am done with it.

What caught my interest was, a very respected member of the group said he would not use either, but more importantly he said he would not use YB because it has "issues".

The guy didn't like either oil. Both good, IMHO.
What oil did he "promote"?

He didn't promote any actually. He just made his statement about YB, and he was against the Kendall because he doesn't believe in using syn blends.

Wow!! I guess we don't need oil or ARX, just hook up the water hose.

Ha ha. That's awesome.
No, this guys actually alright. He's a pretty big help most of the time, and provides solid advice. But again, the Pennzoil remark caught my attention.

There was one guy on the thread though who ran M1, but he would change it every 3K miles, or before the oil turned dark. He said "I don't want all that black [censored] running through my motor".

Is this an automotive enema????

I don't know about the Kendall Syn, but I won't use their non syn oil ever again. I have a 2002 Frontier V6, and after using Kendall 5W 30 for 2000 miles the truck would get this weird pulsing vibration. I did two oil changes using Kendall and the same thing happened. I changed to Pennzoil 5W 30 and even after 5000 miles I do not have that problem.

Idiot?? I resemble that remark! Pennzoil is not the only waxy oil.

Look here: http://housewares.hardwarestore.com/38-199-misc-canning/gulf-paraffin-wax-179267.aspx

The Gulf Oil Company actually makes more money on it's wax business than it does oil.

And this: http://www.hpwax.com/industry.htm

"As America lost much of its heavy manufacturing to foreign countries and while technology in lube oil production changed, many refineries began closing their lube oil producing facilities and in so doing took out the more valuable wax product line".....they're talking about YB here!

"Paraffins, microcrystallines and petrolatums are all separated from crude petroleum........ it is used primarily in the candle, packaging and building board industries among many other markets."

Who's the idiot now?......Hmmmmmmm?????

It's funny to study this wax industry site to see that they consider the "oil" part of crude processing to be the by product vs. the more important wax.

Actually crude oil has paraffin in it . With the GpII GPII+ on up it is converted by hydroisomeration [sp]to a real good oil. Paraffin as crude oils go is the best of the best. Pennzoil is GPII+ oil hence the pure base trademark for their oil. Chevrons is isosyn.

Aren't Taurus's for people who have given up on life?

Just Kiddin' They are quite reliable cars! My uncle had one and drove the snot out of it, and it gave him 400,000km before he was in an accident.

How many transmissions did he go through??
grin2.gif

Good friend got 450k km on his taurus wagon, however it ate 3 transmissions in the process

He bought the car new, and converted it to Amsoil Tranny fluid on mine and my dads (mechanic) advice because he knew they were bad for them and it made it all the way to 300K before needing an overhaul!

Just a testament to how good the oil is eh?

My dad and I rebuilt his transmission using a clutch & seal kit at the 300K mark, and when we took the transmission apart, it was spotlessly clean inside. Just the clutch packs had worn away, but the planetary gears were is almost new like condition... We were impressed.

I'm now running this stuff in my Hyundai transmission as it's SP-III rated.

amazing how a good fluid can protect even the worst designs. I believe in syn in the tranny and diffs, due to length those fluids are in use. I can't believe that any manufacturer would state some fluids are lifetime fills. I replaced the diff and tranny fluid in my new forester and the diff definitely needed changing.. never seen fluid that ugly before. Changed everything to ester based syn (motul gear300). I've used amsoil mtf in my hondas.. great fluid, especially in winter.

I change my ATF fluid in my Hyundai every 50K using the ATF-Amsoil stuff. It comes out as clean as it went in... The dealer semi-syn stuff that I used for the first 2 changes of 25K came out like a dark maroon colour... So there is definitely breakdown and heat going on...

My trannie gets cooled through the rad first, then goes to an auxiliary cooler in front of the rad. So heat must be a problem with this one.
