Thank you for your inquiry,

Mobil1 motor oils are 100% synthetic, utilizng the PAO basestock and
proprietary blend of additives that is tailored specifically for each
viscosity. Mobil does not discuss specifics about our motor oil
formulations.

You can view FAQ's and more information online at www.mobiloil.com.

I received this response word for word AND that Mobil 1 contains no Group III at all. The latter was from Joe.

Geez.. Enough already.

I think we should just leave the poor mobil tech's alone. How many more people are going to email them expecting a different answer. Did you expect to be the only one to have a tech confess that mobil 1 uses grp III?

I have no doubt M1 now contains Group III. It's a blend of III/IV and V base oils. The one time I called, the guy wouldn't say yes or no and I should "only worry about the finished product and how well it performs".

Nope we worry about honesty and getting our money's worth of their product. If they are substituting what they always said were inferior products then why should we shop their products. They were caught and we should boycott their products as much as reasonably possible.

"Mobil1 motor oils are 100% synthetic, utilizng the PAO basestock"

Just to point out, this IS a wordplay to make the reader think it's all PAO when their literal claim is not that.

Exactly. And what's with the odd use of the definite article?

The slick word play is making me angry.

100%synthetic-coma-UTILIZING PAO..."UTILIZING"
100%Legally marketable synthetic, and yes we use some PAO

Just let it go and if you feel slighted then boycott mobil and move on. I think i have read 10 threads that has to do with mobil and their reply to the same question. Enough is enough.

XOM. Stock hit alltime high today. Do you guys REALLY think they care about BITOG? Its a great forum and all but come on now.

Just wondering. This whole thing started with a single sample. Standard scientific principles have not been applied. No comparisons were made with other samples guaranteed to be be PAO or Group III. No other samples of M1 were run. No comparisons with other oils. No independent repeatability of the tests. Even experts have been known to jump to premature conclusions. This reminds me of the whole cold fusion fiasco years ago.

Still waiting to exhale...

Wrong. There were TWO samples. One from EP 15w-50 and the other from EP 5w30.

Yeah, if it was one sample, I'd say maybe someone retured that bottle with an old switcher-roo. A 5q jug w/foil seal would be most reliable. btw- Tom's crudentials are impeccable. I'd still love to know when the changeover occured...a few more sample would have been really helpfull in this respect...but.

maybe mobil found a way to get the EP oil with 1 yr/15k miles. with a group 3 instead of PAO and saves the company money.

Guys,

You got a better chance of Kentucky Fried Chicken telling you what the 11 secret herbs in Colonel Sanders' Recipe is....

than ExxonMobil giving you a straight answer.
