We sent some winter jackets and coats to relatives & friends in Northern Thailand. They've been having a cold spell and it's been highs in the low/mid 50s F. They just can't get the quality of jackets we take for granted in the US and Canada for anything near a reasonable price. Cost us less to buy and send a dozen jackets by mail than for them to purchase cheap stuff from China there. Yeah, the area of Thailand where my wife grew up averages 50s in Winter. I remember the Army going to small villages in the mountains with blankets and heaters to rescue people during a cold spell when I worked there. Temps are pretty mild to us, but hypothermia kills at 50F.Everyone is breaking out the Patagonia and Northface gear here.
I've lived in the south. Lots of heat pumps. Not a lot of natural gas furnaces. Sometimes you can kick the heat pump into high gear with some heat strips built in but those are much lower efficiency.Pardon my ignorance but I’m a LONG ways from south Texas. What is the typical heating situation for a home there? Would it be a forced air natural gas furnace? Or more likely electric like baseboard heaters and mini splits?
It's going to be a really bad ice storm. An inch of ice on everything is catastrophic. Downed power lines. Many will be without power for a while. It's not just people being wimpy about some cold or a little snow. It's much more than that. Are the Canada guys here laughing at this storm? Or is this storm bad?
We had an exchange Canadian pilot who was really funny with his snow jokes. He said make sure you clear a 12" x 6" patch in the snow on your windshield before you drive. Don't bother with the back window, you don't need to see what you already drove by. If you have 4x4 go as fast as you want, there's always a telephone pole or ditch handy to stop you.Are the Canada guys here laughing at this storm? Or is this storm bad?
I was wondering the same thing. I have a Predator 3500 inverter generator for outages and had considered putting a plug on one of the furnaces but think I’d need a bonding plug for it to work. I know the Tesla won’t charge on my generator the way came from H Freight so I’d assume the furnace would say no as well.Do you just use a bonding plug, or ground your Genny? Or your furnace doesn't care?

removed the neutral bond in the generator, wired up with a NEMA 14-30 through 10/4 so the only bond is in my panel as it should be. 9kw starting harbor freight predator genny.Do you just use a bonding plug, or ground your Genny? Or your furnace doesn't care
I have a ground wire from my panel, to the outlet , and through the cord to the 220v outlet on my genset. A ground wire on the generator is connected to the frame. Everything seems to work fine, well pump, furnace etc. Is this correct?removed the neutral bond in the generator, wired up with a NEMA 14-30 through 10/4 so the only bond is in my panel as it should be. 9kw starting harbor freight predator genny.
Well, I have driven in the northern US, Canada, Russia, Romania, etc, etc … so, I’ll pass on your smug advice …
Being from Wisconsin all my life I'd take a foot of snow over a inch of ice any day of the week. Inch + of ice is no joke anywhere you live. It's going to be a really bad ice storm. Smug? It’s a joke. From someone in the south. It’s from broadcast TV. I’m from the south. I would have needed that advice myself before moving to someplace it snowed.Well, I have driven in the northern US, Canada, Russia, Romania, etc, etc … so, I’ll pass on your smug advice …
Don't know. It was obviously a joke.Smug? It’s a joke. From someone in the south. It’s from broadcast TV. I’m from the south. I would have needed that advice myself before moving to someplace it snowed.
