Extended Drain Oil for MB 229.5 applications

Hope you tried being sarcastic, Johnny. Hard to imagine someone driving a Mercedes and doing 15K OCIs wouldn't want to spend $10 a liter on oil. That being said, the Critic mentioned "Price is not an issue.".
that being said you can buy a flagship synthoil at walmart for $5/liter. vst is still a tough sell even if you’re looking for the best

while the change interval is usually longer in Europe (which may be due to cost of servicing, price of oil in Europe, average cost of ownership during lease time) another factor may be sulphur content of the gas. In western Europe we only have ultra low sulphur fuels.

Wasn't German/Belgium Castrol 0w40 a thing here a while ago? The older MB's had 13k as a standard oil change interval, my 2008 E-350 still has that as the change interval.

Except that MB229.5 is not based on grade but HTHS.
Ah you're right. But i did see that they can come in 0/5w-30/40, but yes 3.5 hths is the minimum for the spec. But still the engine spends its life on the highway so wear should be lower than average for its mileage.

Should be, could be, who knows.
ILSAC GF oils are lower on TBN. MB229.5 has minimum 10 TBN. That has direct impact on OCI. Also, vehicle is direct injection.

I did miss the part about price not being an issue, but at least you know why I wrote it the way I did. And also why I suggested the Pennzoil as an excellent alternative.

True. A uoa on fuel dilution and tan would be important in a di engine going for long intervals. Then again Mercedes did intend for the oil to go that long, and since it's highway milling i don't think fuel dilution will be an issue. Only on stop and go engines. And i do like seeing high tbn numbers, but the tbn retention is also important.

I believe liqui moly special tec carries the certs you want; 5w30, bmw LL01, 229.5. 502/505. Ran it 10k in my wife's amg cla 45 and my audi TTs.

I don't really think Wal Mart brand 229.5 is better than Germany or vice versa. Maybe cheaper but not better. Op asked for a few brand choices and I gave him one
Wal Mart brand? Just bcs. it has oversized Made in Germany it doesn’t mean it is better, and it is not.
Have you checked ever Wal Mart or you just fell for those letters?

I think he was just referring to oils like Mobil or Castrol or Pennzoil that's available at Walmart. Walmart doesn't actually have a supertech oil that's on MB's approved list.

It's somewhat funny that people in the US prefer foreign oils and people in foreign countries prefer US oils. Mobil is actually the supplier for Mercedes in the US.
