As many of us already know, the Motorcraft FL400/910S can be used on the 1ZZFE motors for a little more capacity. I've done this without issue, but lately I've been using a standard size Fram Ultra. Changed the oil 350 miles ago and used the PL10241(900S equivalent). I'm not sure if the pressure is just too different than stock or what, but I ended changing it out after 350 miles. Upon startup, it felt like the motor idled low for a second or two, then it acted normally. As if there wasn't as much oil pressure on startup as there normally was. No oil pressure lights, just made it seem like a rough startup. I know that's a vague way to describe it, but that's what it seemed like to me.

I'm sure it would have been fine running the filter the whole OCI, but it was driving me nuts! Swapped the standard size Ultra in and the "issue" is gone. Nothing bad on Purolator of course, this filter just didn't work for me in this app. Just wanted to give a heads up to 1ZZFE owners who like to run oversize filters. I don't recall this happening when I used to run MC filters. I will however just stick with the factory size filter from here on out. No good reason for me to run the oversize IMO but this P1 was the last oversize in my stash.

That is too bad it did not work out; I wouldn't mind using that filter for my !echo! since all the other vehicles I maintain (2006 b2300 and 2002 Tundra) use it.

Yep, used many PL10241 on 3.4L Tacoma with no issues. Popular size, 3614 Fram number.

Sorry it didn't work out.

Yep, I use the PL10195 on my Tacoma V6. Pretty big filter.

I highly doubt the oil filter made the engine run as you described. Most likely something else going on.

It's possible I suppose. Although the only variable has been changing the filter. Since then, no scenario like I described in the OP. Perhaps a bad filter? Remember, I said 1-2 seconds in the OP which is exaggerating, 1 second or less I'd say.

^^ The only way any oil filter is going to choke the oil flow to an engine is if it's very clogged up (which this one couldn't be since it was new), or it was very defective which caused oil flow to no go through it.

Did you cut it open to look inside?

I'm having a hard time visualizing a FL-910s equivalent as "oversize".

The spec filter must be near thimble sized.

No I didn't cut it open and take a look unfortunately.
