EV's dime a dozen? I think everyone and his brother will be making them.

EV aren't simple.
Everything but the BMS & Crash avoidance is simple.

Get rid of the need for the BMS and you have a $9999 car

Look at Kandi k27, $9999 battery powered car, even has air bags and backup camera

Do you think we will be fully capable in 10 years? Illinois is going short on electricity this summer and hardly any electric cars.. And just how many Gigawatts does it take to replace 135 billion gallon of gasoline? And what about all the oil based chemicals?

135,000,000,000 gallons = 15,390,000,000,000,000 BTU = 4,510,364,400,000 KWHs

I believe these issues will be addressed- but yes it will take time.

The BITOGers can kick and scream and come up with objections but the Electrics are coming....

I think there will come a day when you will need a permit to drive an ICE car and it will be limited to car shows and parades.
50 years from now maybe?
Long before that happens the oil companies will have abandoned refining/selling gasoline and diesel for vehicles, there won't be any fuel available for car shows or parades. Or do you think the oil companies will still keep a few refineries open so that a dozen ICE vehicles can do their annual July 4th parades?

I call B.S. As electricity is generated and transmitted most of it is lost as heat and other conversion losses long before it reaches it's final destination. My house is natural gas heated, which is vastly cheaper than electric heating!
We are talking about recharging a vehicle-and what your pay. If we are leaving out how the power is generated and transmitted ( and the alleged inefficiencies)-since that is difficult for any of us to determine from our local provider, what is left is the cost to "fuel" your tank. Electricity (at his point) is far cheaper. If it remains so-we don't know.

GM/Honda say their price point for EVs is $30,000.00. Not much more than an entry level new car now. What we know, Tesla, Ford, Chevrolet (with their EV pickups) and Nissan with their Aryia all have reservations that extend to months, if not years. The European luxury car makers expect their production to a vast majority of EVs in the next ten years.

So-yea-they are coming.
EV sale trends have been quickly increasing around the globe. In the first half of 2021, approximately 5.6 million EVs were sold internationally — equivalent to about $244 billion in sales — which is a huge jump from 3.1 million sales in 2020 and 2.1 million in 2019. Additionally, there were more than 500 zero-emission vehicles available as of 2021, or 37% more models than those manufactured in 2019.

In 2021 alone, 9% of global car sales were electric vehicles, which is a significant increase from 2019’s sales of less than 3%. As EV sales climb, internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle sales will slowly decrease — as seen over the last couple years.

Not BS. The amount of waste heat (energy) in an ICE vehicle is massive

If the US didn’t have its head in its arse it could do like Europe and use power plants to distribute hot distilled water to local areas around the plant.

That raises a modern 50% efficient coal fired plant up to nearly 100%, my home is only 6 miles from 3 hydrocarbon power plants.

The 80-100F water that comes out the head could reduce water heating and home heating costs

I hate seeing China kicking our butt in E.V's and Renewables.
The 'greens' fail to mention we're completely reliant on imports of all our rare-earth minerals from CHINA (the USA has decent reserves domestically but the 'greens' have killed off any domestic mining or refining here in the USA) , much as the 'greens' are out to destroy the USA's fossil fuel industry, so the USA won't have EITHER ICE or EV vehicles! I suppose while Biden in visiting the Saudi's to beg for more oil he can then swing by China and beg them for the rare-earth's for EVs as well. I'm sure that China is totally happy to help the USA in this regard, being the close allies that we are!

Tesla Raises Prices for Some Models in the U.S.

Price hikes likely motivated by rising commodity prices

https://www.investopedia.com/tesla-raises-prices-again-5442840

  • Tesla has increased the price of some of its US models due to the rising cost of raw materials for its batteries, chip shortage, and supply chain constraints.
  • This is the fourth price increase since early March.
The price hike affects the long-range version of the Model 3 as well as the high-end models such as Model Y and Model X. The steepest increase is for the Model X Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive which will now be available at $120,990, up from $114,990--a difference of $6000.

The Model S Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive will also cost $5000 more and will sell at $104,990, up from $99,990.

While the price revision will not affect the most affordable Rear-Wheel Drive version of the Model 3 which sells at $46,990, the cost of the Long Range Model 3 will be higher by $2,500 and will be sold at $57,990. The Long Range Model Y will also cost $3000 more, with a new sticker price of $65,990.

300M cars and who knows how many small motors on gas now. They need to shake some legs on the electricity production and additional infrastructure.. Not like you can store it like oil.

I think it will be decades before ICE cars are gone. No infrastructure currently for massive conversions to electric.

When battery packs need replacement many will just abandon the vehicle than replace, especially if financing for 72-84 months.

If all that’s true, how does GM have this contract with MP for rare earth metals that will be mined in CA and processed in TX?

“Under the long-term agreement, MP Materials will supply U.S.-sourced and manufactured rare earth materials, alloy and finished magnets for the electric motors used in the GMC HUMMER EV, Cadillac LYRIQ, Chevrolet Silverado EV and more than a dozen models using GM’s Ultium Platform, with a gradual production ramp that begins in 2023.”
