For some, it has little to do with money and more to do with necessity. The question for some people becomes, why waste resources when you don't have to? The same can be said for oil, but that's another topic for another day.

Filters such as M1, FU and NP can go up to 15k miles.

Agreed. Also, the difficulty of changing oil filter in some vehicles so that reuse oil filter once is not a bad idea.

I have to agree with JohnnyO over the other replies. Also, if your filter is that difficult to service take it somewhere or have a friend or family member remove/install it.

I dont see anything wrong with changing the filter every other OCI..IF THE OEM SPECS FOR IT. They know whats best. Im going to try and use the Fram Ultra I have on deck for 2 OCI's in the Accord. If I can hold out It will be in use for 10,000 miles. We will see though, If I feel I need to change the oil to keep my sanity then out with the old and in with the new

Most owners manuals spec to stay with OEM parts also; plugs, filters, wires, fluids, etc. But, does EVERYONE do it?
Just saying.........

And those people would be wise to follow the owners manual. I never said everyone did it. I stick with OEM plugs, wires, and fluids on the Accord. I have an OEM filter on it now, and someone else's OEM fluid in the sump =P (see sig)

Well, you better remove that SCOD on your Chevy and install an AC DELCO filter.

Guess the Honda stealerships didn't get that memo because they change the filter at each oci as SOP. Just sayin.

Dealers change the oil filter every time as standard procedure, so they can have a standard procedure.

It's not worth the trouble for them to have a variable routine.
And if they charged $31 last time (no filter change) but $40 this time (new filter) customers may also feel tricked or raise questions.

^^^^^No argument. But the point was that the OEM knows best. For whatever reason or reasons, what the OEM knows best, must either be not true or just not that important if the dealers have their own routine they don't change.

And if you go back and read this thread, you will note I ran a BD+ two ocis to 13.5k. Had more to do with the filter though, than the OEM recommendation.

When I go to frams website they have the xg9688 ultra filter for my veloster listed for 10,000 mile and not 15,000 miles. I just thought that was kinda weird considering the filter box itself has it listed for 15,000 miles.

Iffy lube and FRAM will tell you to change your air filter every 12,000 miles or 12 months. Does everyone buy that?

Do what you need to do in order to sleep at night.
Just realize that you may be doing something unnecessary. Some folks change their oil and filter every 3k still. Some change fuel filters or even o2 sensors on a set [too early] schedule as well. If the Honda engineers say that a filter that meets the OEM specs can be changed every other OCI, then I'll believe them. I can save time and money by leaving that filter where it is - sold!

On my 95 f250 I used to do 3000 mile drains with dino and pur1 filters. I got the truck 2 years ago with 9000 miles on it. The truck was in garage and I got lucky to get it. At about 25,000 miles I decided to use synthetic oil. Since then I been using whatever top of the line syn oil and filter special at autozone or advanced. I was thinking id do 4000 mile changes now But on my last oil change I used the fram ultra with pp 5w30. Does anyone think its safe to go maybe 8000 miles on the oil and filter or should I change the oil and leave the ultra on for 2 oci. Its a 5.8 litter v8 and im not sure how hard that motor is on the oil. I was always a 3000 mile change kind of guy and always changed the filter every oci. But Im starting to think Im wasting money. Without doing a uoa im a lil nervous.

That's weird because the Ultra is supposed to be rated at 15K interval regardless of which Ultra model of filter it is.

It must be a mistake on the websight because even the xg2 ultra filter for my f250 says 10,000 miles on the websight.

You can easily go 10K miles on the oil and filter. And, don't think you're losing money by changing the oil filter every OCI. It just shows you have common sense and are doing what YOU think is best.

10,000 miles scares the heck out of me. I gonna really try to push it too 6,000 and do a oil n filter change. And maybe do a uoa just to see the numbers. Years ogo I worked for a mining company that used to let me use there oil analasis kits once in while for the truck I had back then but now I have no idea who to use.

In the past I have used local machine and tractor dealers for a UOA. Caterpillar was the best. Look in the yellow pages for a dealer near you. Or, you can use BlackStone Labs.
