Ever have a couple of bald eagles come to visit?

Impressive birds. I see them on occasion in WA state and when I was in Alaska many moons ago. They still make me stop and look every time.

There was a bald eagle finding eating something by the river near work a few weeks ago and the entire office was crammed by a window watching it, totally mesmerized.

To say the least, they area extremely fascinating and impressive. We don't see many around here, but whenever I see one it just amazes me!

A few years ago, spent too many hours watching their videos

About a block and half away from my house in S. Florida there is a nest. Every year the pair come back raise a new family. We walk over with binoculars and watch them for a while.

We get quite a few around here in the winter time. Not at all uncommon to see one cruising along looking for a snack- in fact the other day I saw one swoop down from a tree down to about windshield level in front of an oncoming car to feast on some roadkill. Bet that guy got quite the sight! The Eagle flew back up and circled around to wait for that car and me to pass by before enjoying his snack.

I recognize that porch... I've seen a pic with several animals on it at once- an Eagle, a fox and some other critters. I wonder if she feeds them?

I thought that they mostly eat fish??

No, they eat any type of prey they can catch. Most people only think fish due to the high populations of bald eagles and higher fish population in streams in the Northern North America and the impressive videos of them catching fish. They will catch and eat anything less than 10 pounds (cats, small dogs included), sometimes bigger.

There was a bald eagle eating a dead deer carcass 2 weeks ago near my place. Was a highly majestic bird. I live near one of the largest lakes in the state and see them a lot. Such a fascinating bird.

Google Decorah, Ia eagle cam.

Thanks for the info!
I do remember reading that Ben Franklin thought the bald eagle was unsuitable to be the symbol of his new country because it ate carrion, proposing the noble turkey as an alternative. Probably only Ben knew exactly how tongue in cheek his proposal was...anyway, at the time I thought he was referring to dead fish.

Twice this past year, we had a Bald Eagle swoop down and get a dead duck on the water (before we could retrieve it), during our waterfowl season....

They actually sit and watch the hunters on the Mississippi...

Never seen an eagle but my dad has always had some form of bird of prey. Most recently he's been into Harris hawks. Talk about a deadly hunter.

Yesterday at the local garbage dump there were 30 to 50 of them.

The Crows and Ravens give them a hard time, if an Eagal comes down to feed the crows gang up and swoop at it until it gives up and waits in the trees with it's buddies.

Outside the dump they mostly eat dead salmon (after sporning) baby ducks or road kill

Im sure those eagles would make a nice lunch out of those cats if they wanted to. We lost a cat to a hawk a few years ago.

I was watching TV a while back and they were showing a video of eagles attacking and pushing mountain goats off a cliff. The goats fell to their death and the eagle then did what an eagle would do to any prey.

We have quite a few eagles on Vancouver Island. We see them regularly.

A couple of years ago we witnessed a drama. An otter had caught a fish and brought it up onto a small floating tie up (about 3' X 3') to eat. I watched through binoculars as he started with the fins and tail. But he kept looking around nervously. Suddenly the otter slipped back into the water taking his fish, just as an eagle landed on the tie-up. Whew!

The next day at about the same time the otter was back again with another fish. And once again he was munching and looking around nevously. Only this time the eagle swooped in and took the fish.

There's a bird sanctuary park nearby with them. I go there to walk and it's nice because only walkers or bird watchers are permitted on the trail. Not even walking your dog in the park is permitted. It's very quiet except for the bird noises of course.
