Even in Europe. Asian cars, among the best. Euro cars the worst.

Hey, I finally got some pics of my cars that can be viewed outside of AudiWorld!

8 year old Avant with 100+k miles...

20 year old Coupe GT with 200+k miles...

To be exact "Audi Financial Services" bucket. They were gifts when Audi rented out Nazerath Speedway and some instructors for their better clients. K_R, thanks for the complement, I'm not trying to hit you over the head with my car opinions and perspective, but there are definately two sides, even to a point that seems to be not subjective like "value"...where one is shorter term and one longer. I hope you have a good look at the Jetta, like you indicated that you had interest in. The message on VWs is very mixed and just go with an open mind.

Even without the survey, I'd assume Audi owners are willing to spend more on their cars, per visit and "visit" more often than Hundai owners. Whatever percent costs more or even less to own, it's worth it. Your thread title says "Euro cars are worst", you are a bit short of showing that. All the post says is Korean cars are cheap and their owners are cheap. Personally, I have no "complaints" but there sure are a lot of complainers out there. If all you are looking for is "trouble-free miles" and cheapness, Hundai is just another car, most cars are "reliable"...KIA, Cavalier, Nissans..I have no interest in driving one of them. Audi/BMW et al are totally different cars for totally different people. I don't see those owners jumping into a Sonata, unless they were, in reality, Hundai owners at heart...just trying to be cool and had no idea what the 2 cars are all about. No real point in trying to equate cars on the opposite ends of the scale. The only commonality is money, we both spend it, and one of us drives a nice car.

Hyundai owners are cheap? What about all the Audi/Mercedes Benz/BMW owners who request a 10 year Auto Loan and can't even afford an oil change and purchase only 10 dollars worth of premium gasoline at a time? Just go to Virginia and you'll see what I mean. They(the unresponsible owners) only buy it so they can look "Cool". Ha, this guy in the Navy bought a Brand new BMW 3 series, he can rarely afford Gasoline and an oil change. He told me that the car was "Pimpin'" ok....
Personally, I think I'm cool for driving a nice car. My car is not Junk, My car is reliable, I get good gas mileage, I have a awesome stereo, I am responsible and do my maintenance with mostly genuine parts, I fill up with a fill tank EVERY time and I still have alot of Cash leftover.
So next time, don't call a Hyundai Owner "Cheap". Most American Hyundai Owners look for value, and in my opinion Hyundai is a dang good car company.

This also kind of reminds me when I was clothes shopping with my bro. We went to the Polo Store and he bought 2 Polo Shirts for $60 or $80 total just for the logo. I refused to buy the expensive Polo and went to Old Navy instead and I bought two Polo Type Shirts and spent a total of $30 and they looked better. Some people just make a huge deal on Logos and mascots.

I like that Audi bucket. I once had a 6 foot plastic Bib, the Michelin Man, but I got rid of him because the girlfriend thought he was creepy. I want Bib!

Hyundai may not have the "name" that audi has, being longer in the business, history, etc.
But to say all hyundai's are bad is very narrow, imo. In the new generation of "up and coming" cars, Hundai has made great improvements, and I think improving quality is a good sign, that shows the company cares about it. compare with the reputation and sales from 10 yrs ago, I think it's hard to deny their improvement in quality AND sales, and reputation.

The Azera is good looking, and believe me, it has a lot more than FM presets (visit the website), I would still buy a BMW 330ci anyday over THAT, if I had the money, but when it comes to affordable, NOT cheap (we have an Elantra (03) and it has MUCH better interior than any Corolla I've ever seen, no joke.) cars, Hyundai is doing VERY well. wifey's Elantra has been very reliable so far, and all "power" things are standard on it.
So don't say they're cheap, really. It just sounds like a cliche from old times. Things HAVE changed.

AJ,

Korea has some of the newest technology in the world. Germany is about 5-10 years behind the 8 ball. Even when Subaru/Isuzu came to Lafayette, IN (in the mid/late 80's), when cars showed up at dealers with even minor paint imperfections, a QA/QC team was there the next day to perform root-cause-analysis and implement the required changes on the line ASAP in order to eliminate the condition. Nothing like taking 3 or 4 years to fix some window clips.

Audi cars
Audi bucket
Audi clothes
Audi soap
Audi T.P. etc...

Ever think you are too close to the Black Forest to see the trees?

From your article:
"But potential buyers need VW to prove that its quality sins are behind it."

See...everyone knows VW/Audi has had and is still having quality issues. 3+ years to address ABS units that catch fire, window reg’s, MAFS, ig. coils, etc... VW can't get the basics right, but tried to build the "best" car in the world??? I am glad there is a management shake-up underway in Germany...too bad it is 10 years too late.

Again, exactly which 8 straight years has CR recommended the Passat and A4? When I read CR, I see several years of these cars as NOT recommended. Maybe a more accurate statement is "Although the Golf & Jetta have had serious quality issues, the Passat and A4 have enjoyed a couple good years of higher than normal VW reliability...A couple times, even making CR recommended list".

That's why Consumer Reports still recommends them and it's twin, the B5 Passat has been their Best Sedan for 7 or 8 years since it came out.

AJ,

You are huffing too much of those gas fumes!

From the 2005 Consumer Reports Buying Guide:

Pages 191 & 192 - "Used Cars to Avoid":

AUDI
- A4 4cyl, '01 & '02
- A4 V6, '96, '98, '02

VW
- Passat (all) '98-'00
- Passat 4cyl, '02
- Passat 6cyl, '96 & '97

"Reliable Used Cars" Pages 189 & 1990

Audi
(blank)

VW

Page 195, A4 model years with "check mark" reliability:

Page 221, Passat model years with "check mark" reliability:

AJ, your statement about CR recommending 8 years of A4s and Passats is unfounded and FALSE.

not that it's needed, but I ran to my neighbor's, (who has CR, and stuff like that), and I can confirm this. It's true.

2006 A4 - "Recommended".

Those models ARE best avoided...for those who don't know a **** thing about maintenance. I don't even recommend them to people AT ALL. Bad coil packs, sludge, timing belt disasters...all VERY bad for ignorant noobs. For me, no problem at at all. My car is totally sweet, totally effective and totally kicks *** for minimum expenses.

Wow, you guys must really have you head up your *** so far it's too dark to read.

2005 CR Buying Guide

#1 Family Sedan- VW Passat
#1 Sports Car- Audi A4
#1 Wagon and Hatchback- VW Passat
#1 Mid-Sized Sport utility- Audi allroad

Small Cars- Hundai Accent- #17, behind Suzuki
Family Sedans- Hundai Sonata #17, dead last

You failed to mention that Sonota and XG 350 are also listed under Used Cars to Avoid.

I'm not here to revisit old issues of bad coil packs, sludge and retarded owners, that's last year's news. I just call 'em as I see 'em.

More excerpts:

Hyndai Tiburon: Reliability- Worst
"Handling NOT Agile"

Hyndai XG 350: Depreciation- Poor
"Handling NOT Agile"

Hyndai Sonota: Reliabilty- Below Average
"Handling NOT Agile"

Hundai Elantra: Depreciation- Below Average
"Poor Crash Performance"

Hundai Accent: Depreciation- Worst
"Ride is Choppy"

...but they are cheap.

CR also thinks Fram makes the best oil filter.

You are very shrewd to maintain exclusivity in this manner. And your maintenance prowess cannot be reproached by us underlings. All hail the Audi pail!
