Having seen terminally ill friends and relatives kept alive and suffering by family members who aren't able to buck up and do the right thing, I'm all for allowing someone to choose their own time when they are in extreme pain or can no longer function.
At 67 I know my time may be limited, although I work hard to keep the inevitable end at bay for as long as possible. But when the end does come, if I'm in a position where it may be a protracted illness that may cause a financial burden on my family, I will make my own choice to go out on my terms.
I'm a strong proponent of allowing people to control their own lives, as well as the end thereof.
