What do guys in Europe drive? Really...I don't know that I've ever seen an American pickup truck on TV in a movie or on the news in Europe. Or any pickup for that matter. I can't recall seeing a Ford F-150 or a Chevy Silverado or Ram pickup even driving by in a news release. Do British guys drive Jaguar or Vauxall or Rover pickups? Do Italian guys drive Fiat long beds? Or maybe guys in Germany drive old VW Rabbit trucks? Do Swedish guys drive Volvo or Saab pickups? Maybe we need to send the cast from Duck Dynasty over there to be pickup truck Ambassadors! Just sayin...G

Pickups are not that popular over there. They prefer the Transit vans and similar small delivery vans.

The F-150, RAM, etc are very expensive over there.

I would say the closest I could offer would be a Sprinter (Germany) or Transit (UK).

I drove a Chevy Silverado 2500HD extended cab short box in Germany (long story) some years ago. The Germans called it "The Monster Truck". It felt like a tank driving around Stuttgart. The narrow lanes and tight turns in Europe are ill suited to a long wheelbase, wide turning circle truck like an American pickup truck. It did attract some attention though.

I understand that the Mercedes Sprinter is very popular for hauling in Europe.

There are plenty of choices in EU when it comes to pickups like the Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi L200, Toyota Hilux, and Nissan Navara that come no way near close to the size of an F150 let's say and they are still pretty impractical here.

You also have to remember that filling the tank here will cost you a kidney (left or right, your choice) and that the price is off the roof; for example a base version Navara costs $37.000, 28K for the Mitsu, 35K for the Ford Ranger and so on.

Now why would I want to pay those prices when 1.3-2.0 diesel, that will not bankrupt me at the pump, type of van that costs `bout 25K can do the same and will keep you stuff safe from rain and under lock?

To expensive and the roads are to narrow.

Contrary to popular belief in this country you don't need a massive bus or truck to lead your life. Narrow roads, expensive parking, $7-$9 a gallon gas, etc correct this belief quickly.

The only place I have seen a lot of big SUV's and trucks with expensive gas is Cayman, their is so much money on that island that people have no problem importing a $60k truck, paying if I remember correctly $30k+ taxes on it, than fueling it with $6 a gallon gas, and flooring it and driving like gas was free.

With gasoline at 1.5 euros ($2) per liter, that is almost $8/gallon!And then in Europe, at least in some countries, you pay an ENORMOUS tax based on the purchase price/size/displacement of the vehicle. Very few people could afford to drive our gas hog trucks over there. That is why diesel vehicles are so popoular. Usually, diesel is cheaper than gas and the mileage is far better.

yes, in 07 I went to england. you can stand on the side of the freeway and count 200 vehicles. NOT one suv or F 150 type vehicle. sprinter vans? yes a few , 18 wheelers yes ups trucks yes.
NO PICKUM UPS. their lowes must deliver to the site/
gas was US$100 for 12 gallons.
Thats the way it will be here when gas prices go up. the guy with the f250 towing his 2 lawnmovers or commuting to work alone , wont be.

The very existence of a market for add ons such as trucknutz in the US indicates that many large truck purchases have little to do with utility.

Not saying there isn't a need for a full sized and powerful pickup, but one will also notice that many commercial delivery box trucks are running around the US with 3 and 4.xL 4cyl diesels

Not "Europe" but Israelis seem to love American full size vans for ambulances. They look out of place among the usual compact Hiluxes and Asian crackerbox taxis on the news.

I recently spent a month in U.K. Denmark and Sweden, we saw a total of THREE PU trucks!
However many cars had Tow hitches fitted
(In Denmark, my wife commented how they looked kind of Phallic)

Small trailers are available to rent in many places, even supermarkets!

You can do a google street view tour and check out cars. France? Hatchbacks, hatchbacks everywhere

When I was in Germany from 88-91 I saw a good number of VW Type 2 and Type 3 pickups. Think VW Van, but in a pickup format.

First victim of the "Chicken Tax".
VW could export passenger vans but TypeII pickups were subject to a 25% tax

There's one here in Arlington. I see it once in awhile. Must be a pre-64 model or someone wanted a Type II pickup real bad back then.
