Diesel pickup trucks- dangerous, malicious drivers

Glasspack shouldn't matter--at least not on a turbo-diesel. Well, much anyhow.

Doesn't "prove" anything, just makes you feel better.

We do loads of things every day that "prove" nothing, but they sure do feel good.

I would really like to see some data that says a Prius is more environmentally harmful than a big truck. I see ignorant rednecks say this all the time without any proof. It seems they say it to rationalize to themselves, and to justify to others why they drive around such a ridiculous and needlessly huge vehicle.
You admit to smoking out other drivers because you think they're smug, even though you’ve never met them before. Seems pretty unfair to stereotype all Prius drivers as smug hippies. Maybe they bought it because they don’t like spending half their paychecks on fuel? Everyone who drives a big diesel truck is a stupid douche who has a small wiener, like you. How did it feel to be stereotyped and attacked by a total stranger? That’s what you’re doing to Prius drivers.

+1

I hear this all the time from the ignorant diesel modders. "Its not bad for the environment!" Uh really?? Yeah, sure the smoke doesn't go into the atmosphere, but all that soot from the exhaust settles onto the ground, and while its doing that people breathe it in. I'm not a greenie, hippie or prius driver. Those guys can blow smoke all they want in the middle of Montana, but don't do it to me in traffic then claim "its not bad for you".

I don't drive a big diesel truck, but if I could afford it I would in a heartbeat. Ever seen any of the data on where that gigantic battery is manufactured, how many continents it travels during manufacture, and the impact of disposal of that battery on the environment? It's worse than 200k of exhaust emissions for a car that gets average gas mileage.

I LOVE electric cars, and the ideas behind them, but I won't try to say they're good for the environment - just my wallet. Same for the battery (although the pure electrics are using much better battery tech, especially cars like the Tesla moving to Lithium Ion batteries), an the fact that still to this day nuclear hasn't overtaken coal as the main producer of electricity. Hybrids are retarded (at least the ones we get here in the US). A diesel Golf/Jetta gets equal or better fuel mileage, lasts longer, and has a FAR smaller ecological footprint. If you're trying to maximize fuel efficiency of a hybrid - you'd buy a plug-in hybrid with an on-board diesel generator. But, the EPA hates us, and you can only buy those in Europe.

Its pretty safe to assume anybody under 30 in a lifted truck is a serious hazard. Double for diesels. Double again for each monster/powersports sticker, exhaust modifications, inches lift, oversize tires, etc. Dirt and work appearance do not automatically make them cool. My worst run in with these ******s was a ratty dodge pulling a trailer. They're lucky I was outnumbered.

And I'm more than happy to live in the U.S.A. where I can protect myself instead of waiting for law enforcement to show up late!

Before I bought my Jetta I did some reading up on diesel emissions. Most of the info was gathered from tdiclub.com, so granted, it was biased; but it seemed researched out, links and all. Going off memory here...

Gasoline engines put out smaller particulate matter, while diesels tend to put out larger. The larger stuff falls out of the air faster, and is not as easily absorbed through the lungs. There was lower toxicity with the diesel particles too. That is not to say one wants to breath either, as much as its to say diesel isn't that bad.

But that's not to defend "rolling coal". That is akin to just pouring gasoline on the ground--polluting for the sake of polluting. Rolling coal is in the same class as removing a catalytic convertor.

Yep, I would get the same warm and fuzzy feeling keying his truck as he got when he smoked me going WOT to be cute.

Bubba can afford a new paint job if he could afford to smoke motorists minding their own business.

We mine very DIRTY CHEMICALS for batteries in north america. Then ship them to Japan on a ship that runs on bunker oil - DIRTY. Then a new car is made and shipped back on a ship that burns bunker oil. Then after 8 years, these lithium ion batteries are disposed of.

Electric cars don't burn gas, true. BUT they use energy from (most likely) coal fired power plants. Typical logic of "not in my back yard"

I didn't feel like your post was directed at me. I was just commenting on many of the other posts. My infrequent use of a little smoke is used as an expression. Some people use their middle finger. I guess most posters aren't frustrated by drivers without cruise control or the ability to stay within 5 miles an hour of a given (not posted limit) speed. I guess a honk, a middle finger, or voilence are options, but they aren't my style. Just saying what little smoke my truck will make is my interstate gesture of choice. BTW, the drivers I'm referring to don't seem to have a particular vehicle of choice. I'd like to own a hybrid, and I happen to be a 26 year veteran, but neither are relevant in my actions.

My thread's about being coal rolled by malicious drivers while I'm keeping very well up with the normal flow of traffic, and slowing it down in no way whatsoever.

Did you think that my thread was about you, in any way?

In your course of driving, do you aim at veterans driving hybrids with their windows down, and then willfully and deliberately try to murder them by blinding them with smoke?

I guess that's the difference. I can defend my home with a pump 12 if I have cause to. But I can't carry around a .50 Desert Eagle and shoot some moron in a Duramax because he blew smoke in my window.

I think you need to re-read my post.

1. Smoking someone out because of what they drive, or for "sport" = Fool

2. Someone willing to go to prison by shooting a weapon to express their displeasure = Fool

3. Someone owning and using a large diesel truck to pull 15K pounds all over the US = Me

I'm out of this one, but have a good one, gang!

No, You can't defend yourself when you're not at home, there in lays the problem there, just as in NYC or Chicago.

Wow, what a stunning collection of broad-brush ad hominems! Please, post what you drive so I can make up reasons you're a hazard on the road!

I've seen one Dodge Cummins in about the last ten years that seems to have been built right, but I didn't see it for long, I tell you. I saw him take off at a light with no muss or fuss, and it was a dually, too. He didn't leave a lot of smoke, either. Usually, the custom jobs here can't do much more than create a lot of smoke and noise, all the while accelerating at a glacial pace.

We're on the same page, I was just supplementing your post.

I like the technology and the idea, but I just don't see the environmental value.
