Answer this: why would you do a UOA?Okay, say I buy the Amsoil kit for 40 bucks. The current oil I have in there is the HP4RU and it has about 3500miles on it. Is it worth doing a UOA on it? Or do I need to multiple?

Well that's the problem, I thought they told me how good the oil is and how my motor is wearing with it. From what you and kschachn are saying, it might not tell the whole story I am looking for. But I really don't know.Answer this: why would you do a UOA?
To a beginner UOA will tell you little - certainly not a magic decision tool.Well that's the problem, I thought they told me how good the oil is and how my motor is wearing with it. From what you and kschachn are saying, it might not tell the whole story I am looking for. But I really don't know.
Out of all the current UOAs that exist out there, are there any "clues" that could point me to the oil I should pick for the next oil change in my bike?To a beginner UOA will tell you little - certainly not a magic decision tool.
Go ahead and do a UOA as a curiosity on the Honda oil.
Run your new oil choice 5K. Do a UOA. Repeat 3-5 times. Post these up. There will be some clues![]()
Nope.Out of all the current UOAs that exist out there, are there any "clues" that could point me to the oil I should pick for the next oil change in my bike?
Okay so do I start GN4 for for all the reports?Nope.
Sorry - Not sure I understand your question.Okay so do I start GN4 for for all the reports?
I was referring to the Honda GN4 oil. As that is the cheapest and what is recommended in my owners manual. Or do you have a suggestion on what oil I should switch to do UOA on.Sorry - Not sure I understand your question.
My recommendation specifically was to not focus on UOA's.I was referring to the Honda GN4 oil. As that is the cheapest and what is recommended in my owners manual. Or do you have a suggestion on what oil I should switch to do UOA on.
Ah, my bad. I thought you were saying to do that whole UOA regimen. And now, to come full circle to why I started this thread: you are recommending me Amsoil. Why? Besides the personal bias, is this cost-based, performance-based, etc.? I would like to know. By the way, I like Amsoil. I use it in a lot of stuff. My recommendation specifically was to not focus on UOA's.

Of course I sell Amsoil. I have no idea where you get it though.Ah, my bad. I thought you were saying to do that whole UOA regimen. This MC is that one ?
I use it l, it's a nice oil with good results.Correct!!!
I mean formulations often change from oil companies.Good question about is it a recent sample of the Amsoil 5W30 and is it a recent sample of the M1 5w30. What are the dates?
Im not a fan of straight 10w30 in a motorcycle, a 10w40 or 5w40 will shear to a 30 weight in 1000 miles. Pretty much guaranteed.Question for the oil experts: If my manual specifies a 10W-30 and wants it run for 8,000 miles, but after 3,300 miles it sheared down to a 20 grade, am I still using a 10W-30?
True. Just as you don’t want turbine oil in an ICE. That’s been shown lots of times on here.
Exactly what I was saying. Is it a recent sample, which, apologies for not being clear, means of recent manufacture. What are the dates of the uoas as well? With the poster that shared that information, typically the dates are well in the past and they are not meaningful to the discussion at hand. It's been questioned many times why the dates are never posted with that information he shares.I mean formulations often change from oil companies.
ex. Redline 10W40 was higher PPM Molybdenum that what is now.
So I am ask if this 10W30 Metric oil analysis is old data or nearly new one
