I've found Esso XD-3 in Toronto for $61.64 for four 4L jugs. Is this a good price?

Next, I'll be using it in a 2000 Beetle, 55000km, with the 2.0 AEG 4 cyl. engine, and in a 1999 Grand Caravan 125000km with the 3.8 litre V6. Would you suggest 0W30 or 0W40? I've only had the Beetle since November, but that motor is known for burning oil - I've put about 5000km on it and I'd say it's about 1/2 litre in the 5000km. Hard to say for sure because I'm running Auto-rx through the Beetle right now. The Dodge burns about 1/2 litre in 5000km.

Currently I'm using 0W30 Castrol GC in the vehicles, but at $7.12 a litre (Wal-Mart) the XD-3 is looking good.

Cheers.

XD-3 0W30 is pretty much identical to GC in terms of its viscosity characteristics. A 'thick' 30-weight.

I really don't think in either vehicle, you could go too 'wrong' with the 0W30 weight.

The price, if it includes taxes and environmental fees is good. Overall it is good, I paid $70 for my case, all taxes/fees included.

hello:

You would be safe with the 0w-30 or the 10w-30. this comming summer i plan to mix 2 quarts 0w-30 xd3 with 3 quarts 10w-30 as homebrew blend, should work out nicely, Running the 0w-30 here now and its doing its job in the extreme cold we are having. As far as the price goes, its very good. I also paid approx 70 bucks Canadian for 4 4L jugs of the 0w-30 synth. No magical eleves can hold a candle to that price

If I'm reading the pdf from the website properly, only the 0W30 and 0W40 are made from PAO basestocks, so the 10W30 won't work for me (well, they would work, but I'm looking for a synthetic to replace GC)

Hello

You are correct. The 0w-30 and 0w-40 are the PAO synth. All other weights of XD-3 are non-synthetic.

Ow-30 synth PAO
0w-40 synth PAO

Mr Ram, I agree with you on mixing XD3 oils for summer and using full strength winter, I will use 0-30 XD3 syn in Nissan year round due to low price and only 4 litre OCI.

In my Dodge Cummins Diesel I will use 4 litres 0-40 XD3 syn and 8 litres 15-40 XD3 dino, I talked to a Esso tech on this blend, he said no problem, the add packs are the same in syn and dino, this syn and dino is compatible in XD3. In winter I go full 0-40 XD3 in diesel. Good to keep a syn content in summer IMO.

I paid the exact same in Montreal last week.

3.85/liter before taxes is certainly hard to beat.

0W-40 is listed at C$51.00/12l case.
