Have to use twenty-weight oil in MDS Hemi's. Not sure about non-MDS Hemi's (but I think not). There's a TSB on that. The cylinder deactivation is dependent upon oil flow for it's operation. I don't think that anything is damaged but the system will not function correctly and the fuel efficiency would not be optimised. I do know that SRT8 Hemis use M1 0w-40 but they are not equipped with MDS.

Yea, stick to the 5w20 in a Hemi seeing it is true the MDS will not work with heavier oil and the increased oil pressure throw the the deactivation off.
