Ending M1 OCI

I don't say no, and I'm not arguing for or against the Neutra or the AutoRx, but rather offering the AutoRX up as being as highly praised by all of the folks you cited above as references for the Neutra. On these pages for the three years I've been reading here, the virtues of AutoRX have been promoted as THE solution for for cleaning up mild to heavy sludge situations.

I've never been sludged in any vehicle that I'm aware of and have never used anything but OCI to keep my engines clean including the last one at 288K which was like new in there when I traded it. Don't want you thinking I'm linked, you understand. But there is a lot of testimony regarding the effectiveness, whether or not we like the pricing of the AutoRx.

Cleansing phase has begun. Had a good sit down chat with the Schaeffers rep. in North Little Rock today. Really nice guy. He sales primarily to the industrial sector but is set up to handle the occassional walk-in.

My Sienna van now has (equivalent of) 1 bottle of Neutra 131 in the gas tank and 1 bottle in the crankcase. The oil is a new fill of Rotella 15w40 (dino). I'll run the cleaning phase for at least 500 miles, perhaps 1k or more.

My 88 Mazda now has 1 bottle Neutra 131 in the gas and 1 bottle in the crankcase. The oil is SuperTech (dino) 20w50 w/ perhaps a hundred miles on it (wanted to get off HM for an OCI to see where I stood - but now using it for cleaning. BTW, I don't like the feel of 20w50 in my Mazda - after adding the Neutra it was a bit more responsive.) Will run the cleaning phase for couple of hundred miles.

Will probably continue doing gas tmts on these just every blue moon.

My next fill on the van will be Sch. 7000 5w30 (bought today). But I'm going conservative. No more 12k+ OCI nonsense. I'll dipstick UOA at 7k or so and (hopefully) settle into a 10k OCI.

I chose Sch. 7000 15w40 for the Mazda (bought today). The Mazda will see one year OCIs (didn't pass this by the rep.) My Mazda only sees 3-4k/yr mileage, and I take it out for regular evaporation runs, so I think it'll do fine.

For the van, I'll likely do a few hundred mile runs of Neutra at the end of future OCIs. Gummed up oil rings appear to be the only downside of my previous extended OCIs.

Onward!

BTW, if the Mazda continues to have trouble with smoke at start-up (after cleaning and filling with Sch.), I'll try running just a bit of Neutra in the crankcase since it is a known seal conditioner (according to Bob of BITOG).

BTW, the Schaeffers rep said Schaeffers will soon be relabelling their "Synthetic blend" as "Synthetic Plus". He was flying thru the chemistry and labelling issues talk, but if I followed him correctly - it's that the "dino" in the 7000 series is a severely processed grp III - thus 7000 is a blend of two synthetics - the grp III and the PAO.

Someone correct me if I got this wrong (the "Synthetics Plus" I know I got right - at least per this reps statement).

Eric, thanks for the input. I already have 4 bottles of Auto-RX in the garage so I'm going to try them on the SC400 for the startup smoke, and my 05 accord 4cyl to see if I can lower th oil consumption. I know 1 Qt every 3K is not terrible, but I think its too much for an 05 with less than 30k. As for the HM, That would probably be a good thing to try in the old Lexus after the Auto-RX.

03 Accord EX
05 Accord LX
Both 4cyl engines and niether use a drop in 7500-9000K mile intervals. Never have and have never seen AutoRx in them. I have heard of some using about 1/2qt between changes but they were run 75-80mph regularly on the interstates. If mine were using a little bit and I was running those speeds I would step up to something like GC 0W30 or Amsoil's 0W30 or Schaeffer's 9000 series 5W30.
The very same engine in the non-U.S. market Accords call for 5W40 oil so you aren't going to have any engine problems running it. I know one gentleman that actually runs the 5W40 Schaeffer 9000 and his MPG actually increased.
I'm not pro thick or thin oil but maybe your engine is asking for something different. You may be surprised at the results. Both of my Hondas call for 5W20 and I have run it with no problems. I have also run thicker 30wts and noticed no changes in gas mileage or performance.

Mokanic, thanks for the comments. One of our cars (My elderly Mom's) is a 94 albeit with only 60K miles, that has never used a drop of oil. Neither did her previous two Accords. Mine, as I mentioned earlier in the thread was a repo that showed signs of poor or no maintenance, this being the reason I have just put in the Auto-RX. Also, I do drive pretty (Very?) hard, both hard acceleration and cruising above 80 MPH for extended periods. I'm sure this has something to do with my oil consumption. I just bought a case of Amsoil 0W-20 that I was planning to use after the cleaning and rinsing. Maybe I should have gone with their 0W-30? I didn't know 5W-40 was specd for non US market Accords...I assumed these engines were built with tight tolerances requiring -20 or at most -30 weights.

Toocrazy, from all cited references it sounds like A-rx is a very good choice for properly cleaning an engine. But also, from all cited references, Neutra 131 is a very good choice for properly cleaning an engine. Meanwhile, I bought enough Neutra (1 gallon and two 12oz bottles) to fully treat two cars (gas and oil) - my Toyota mechanic reference tells me Neutra does an excellent job of cleaning carbon deposits from cylinders (verified by viewing before/after with a boroscope) and I have yet to hear a naysayer in it's ability to clean the engine - all I've heard via emails and on the public forum is - "it'll do the job". And Bob (of BITOG fame) was a tester and user of Neutra. When this cleansing run is complete on these two cars, I'll still have enough Neutra left for additional gas tmts, or to use at the end of my next OCIs. And this gallon and two bottles cost me $25.73. One 12oz bottle of A-rx would cost me $24.97.

To some degree I've thrown the gauntlet down for Neutra. Putting it in my Mazda with 210k and in my Sienna w/ 140k. Both cars have issues that will test Neutra. The one issue that could confound the Sienna test is if the oil rings still have enough tension memory (my term) to perform properly if/when clean.

I'll let you know the results - good or bad.
