Since I saw Ford Motorcraft get pounded in the Ground for being so bad to the point, Iam not sure I want to even use them anymore. I was curious does anybody know the effeciency rating on the black Mopar filters. When I do a search, All I get is the older grey filters that Fram used to make for Dodge. The new Black ones are defienetly Purolators and they are alot heavier but are they as good as the Purolator Classic premium filters. i would hope so, but the Mtorcraft ratings freaked me out.

Try contacting Mopar to see if they have any technical specs ... maybe they have more than Motorcraft when I tried to contact them. You know the rest of the story.

They are 100% assured to meet or exceed OEM spec's. What more could you ask for? I didn't keep up with the MC thread. I really can't see a problem with MC filters "as a rule". Any filter manufacturer can have a defect from time to time. Not one commonly available filter has been 100% defect free on BITOG in my recollection. $0.30-$0.40 products can do that.

The MC thread was not about filter defects, unless you consider bad performance specs (even though they may perform better) a defect.

The Mopar filters are simply rebadged units...

I know the Mopar Cummins filter is a standard Fleetguard, and I remember reading something about the gasser filters being rebadged Frams at one point.

One thing to remember is that the manufacturer only needs to get the vehicle through its warranty period. Not saying they are putting a junk filter on, but they have no reason to put a top of the line on there either.

The one for my Jeep Patriot appears to be a Pure One with black nitrile instead of silicone. The reason I say that is it has the Pure One baseplate, and the Purolator Classic for my application is actually a Champ PH48, so it's not just a rebadged filter in this case. http://www.purolatorautofilters.net/resources/Popup/Pages/PartDetailPopup.aspx?partnum=L12222
Whether the Mopar has classic or pure one media I'm not sure.
I have a used Mopar to cut open, maybe someone will be able to identify the media as classic or pure one when I post the pics....

You can make silicone, nitrile, or any other type of rubber in any color you want. Black is the cheapest. You could try burning a pinch of rubber from any ADBV, and if you get a distinct ''burnt hair'' smell, it is a nitrile. I don't remember any quick tests for silicone.

At least 80% @ 20 microns should do that.

That's strange that the Purolator Classic L12222 is a totally different design than the PL12222. All the Purolators I've seen have the same base between the Classic and the PureONE models.

If it says "Mopar" on it, its rebadged.

One of the Cummins guys happened onto a bad batch of fuel (rust, water, etc.) and Dodge denied his warranty. He stated that he felt that was what the filter was for (dirt/water)...to which they more less replied its only there as a customer convenience and that it was the customer's responsibility to run clean fuel.

So take that for what its worth...I'm not questioning their response about denying warranty, but why install a filter at all if that's the way you feel about a filter!!
