Not all 350's are fast. Just think about this, the "High Output" 305 with the electronic quadrajet that came from the factory in my 86 Monte SS put out a whopping 190hp. My 2.4 liter (half the displacement) Scion TC puts our almost 170 with a lot less weight. Im glad I ditched that 305 and 200R4 trans for a 406 SBC and TH350 trans.
You are saying 305. are you saying 305 was a 350cubic inch engine? and the "307" (?) V8 from a 1982 delta 88 was not a fast engine, but a mighty powerful one. please confirm 1982 delta 88 had 307cubic inch V8
also heard of a "396" engine. other nice engine/trans to drop in this car? it has a 700R4 at this time. i just put some seal-up in the radiator ran for 25 mins let it sit long time it runs better and no more whispy smoke or steam so i see improvement and i went with 10W30 i didnt go thicker unless i should ?
you have alot to learn about sbc and bbc.
putting a bbc in a 3rd gen requires a 500 dollar pair of headers and a motor mount adapter set. i know your planning on running headers otherwise the statement is...
the stock 396 was junk, the heads had so much valveshroud they didnt flow anything. if you want a bbc i would go with a 454 or 427. if you can find a buildable core..
for you i recommend a sbc with 100 dollar set of headmans and y-pipe. dont get too big on the cam and look for some decent heads. get a 700r4 from an 87 or newer 3rd gen because they are stronger and have it built with red altos and a corvet servo. putting a planetary gear out of a 4l60 e would help as well. then you need to spend a grand to build the rear end because its junk 7.5 without posi and high gears....
or you could get a 5.0 and call it done..
and im shocked that someone had a 190 hp 305!! my 82 with 200r had 160 hp rating. it was a dog!!!!! went with a 440 hp 350 and th350 w/ 3500 stall and 410s. 7.80s eighth mile. but that was when i was single and no kids. i drive a fuel injected flybywire pos now and i hate it. throttle response, whats that??
Not for nothing but...

"For 1980, all 88s got new and more aerodynamic sheetmetal for improved fuel economy highlighted by rounded square taillights similar to mid-70s 88s, but overall dimensions stayed the same and coupes received a revised roofline. New to the engine lineup was the
307 cubic-inch Rocket V8 with four-barrel carburetor and 150 horsepower (110 kW). All other engines except the now-discontinued 403 were carried over from 1979." wiki
what can fit in camaro third gen ?
