Early failure of Amazon Basics AA alkaline battery

I had another failure of a Amazon Basics Alkaline AA battery. My flashlight has 6 batteries, inserted from a fresh package. The flashlight eventually went dim and rather than chucking all six batteries, I checked all the voltages. One battery was down to 0.1 V. The others were about 1.3 V. I replaced the bad one and got bright light again. Glad I checked.
I’m finding Amazon Basics has problems like this once in awhile.

As a tech I was a D cell power user for years. All the brands have that issue, out of the blue one seems to have an internal connection issue. Energizers were more problematic for me. Had it with ProCell's from Grainger also, Co. supplied. I'm a Duracell person now, it happens with them but less frequent. Have run into it with Energizer Lithium's also.

Sometimes that's what you get for 25-30¢

Have used them and they seem pretty similar. Myself I have not had a Amazon not charged or a leaker. At one time I used Diehard from AAP
IN the alarm industry we have had so many issues with the major brands leaking in some sensors. It seems like once they start getting run down, even though the sensor would still work (and would not trigger a low battery signal) for some reason they were terrible when in a low charge state for a long period of time and would leak.

Even at home in my LED flashlights I had issues. So it was never more for the major brands and here these over 50% less costly.

I am almost to the point where I use something with a battery and when done, pull the battery and put them in a baggie next to what requires the battery.

Probably not a flashlight but other things that require a battery.

I bought a ground loop meter for HOA to check a ground loop for the gate. Cheaper than one call to the gate company. But how often will it be used?

The bulk packs of Duracell and Kirkland-branded alkaleak cells at Costco offer the best value.

But having had one too many leak in devices, and recently discarded new, unused cells for the same issue, will pursue other options.

I use lots of AA batteries for Wireless Microphones in a Church and change out before each Sunday service.
I started off using the Duracell PROCELL AA many years ago with good results but wanted to try a more cost saving battery but in my live environment batteries are mission critical and MUST work 100% all the time, every time.

In a live production situation things move quick and things such as packaging, how easy and quick to open can make or kill the experience. That cellophane around the larger packs of Amazon Basics AA I found totally impossible to open quick, I was alwasy looking for a knife or scissors to open, A TOTAL No Go in my situation!
I loved the Duracell Procell as it came in large box that then has small boxes with 4 AA and was quick and easy to open fast and was my #1 choice for wireless mics but the price was high!

I tried the made In China Amazon AA but the packaging was so hard to open and that slowed me down on a Sunday morning!
Then about 4 years ago I started buying the Rayovac 36. 48 or 60 pack AA and found them to be fantastic batteries, great life, no leaking and EZ and quick to get in and out of the box and was MADE IN THE USA and PRICED GREAT for American made batteries!

I order my batteries once a month and noticed a few months back something changed! I noticed the Rayovac batteries had a slightly different color blue, felt a little different when handling in my hands ( hard to explain ) and then I notice MADE IN INDONESIA! Rats Rayovac!
I thought production in general was coming back to the USA in 2025 so what gives with these INDONESIA made Rayovacs now in 2025?

I have not researched the situation and wonder is it just my supplier or has production been moved?

I’ve had good luck with the blue batteries from harbor freight. They seem as good as the major brands, and if they go on sale they are a great buy.
