Can someone point me in the direction of the pictures with failed e-core media? Sure is lots of talk about it, but I cannot seem to find any..and yes, I've searched

TIA

Failed Ecores pictures are not nearly as common as some suggest. There is that one. Also, Webfors posted one a month or 2 ago I think out of his father's Saturn. Texan4Life posted some, but most of us discounted them because the filters laid out inthe weather for who know how long. No pictures, but a report of a crate engine with a blocked bypass the Ecore burst.

So it seems like there are really only 2 reasonable people would consider. That compares to dozens and dozens of good reports over thelast 5 years or however long they have been around.

Other brands fail too, but nobody keeps digging up pictures of them and reposting them except for Fram.

Now that you've mentioned it, you may have a point.

I like the ecore concept. Add a metal screen and I'll buy them again. Without any additional media support the only thing that would get me to buy one again would be a see-through can so I can inspect the media before purchasing!

+1, pretty much to the letter.

Champ Labs, are you listening? I think you have a good concept here. And if the metal screen adds 3 cents to the filters, mark 'em up 3 cents, and you'll still have an excellent value (and one that I'd probably use).

I don't think you'll see that happen. What the E-Core is trying to do is have less metal material in the filter so it is easier to get the oil out and less stuff to throw away in the land fills.

The filters are going to cartridges for new vehicles and E-Cores type (both have no metals for the elements) for environmental reasons.

It will be interesting when these filters are the only ones you will be able to get. All the people who call out the stashes will be spending some major coin for *their* filter stash.

I wonder why they couldn't replicate the metal screen in plastic so there were fewer high shear points between supports in the media.

Exactly, no metal in the element section is the whole idea, thus Ecore. A tighter nylon lattice structure maybe, but metal tube of any kind would be a "Champion Classic". Which are still available under names such as M1, K&N, Royal Purple, etc.

Actually many of the ST and STP filters still use the same older design as the Purolator Classic. Believing the the M1, K&N, Royal Purple, etc. are comparable to the Purolator Classic requires consuming a massive amount of Kool aid.

Not saying that. Saying that according to Champion, Ecore is the future and they intend to move more and more of their product line in that direction. The small diameter Champ, ST, and STP are the only ones I know of in that line of Champs that still use metal due to manufacturing constraints. Their premium lines of course all use the metal center tubes.

For now. Soon it will not be. They will be converting the whole lines to E-Cores. Someday there will be a law to keep the filters easier to dispose of.

Number #1 reason for the cartridge filters on new vehicles.

I'd love nothing but cartridge filters!! The ultimate insurance is the ability to inspect the media and construction of a filter before you install it. Bring it on

Yep ... all they have to do is reduce the window area in the center core, and also ensure the pleats are packed tight enough so they don't fold down flat on the center core.
