What's going on at fram?

I'm good on filters for about 5 years or until we get a vehicle that takes a different filter 😂.

Nearly everyone said "it doesn't matter" when it started now we see where its going.. it DOES matter.;)

Ordered a cutter from Amazon. I'll post pictures tomorrow to see if it's just an st4967 with a fancy paint job.
If it has metal end caps, then yes it's basically a SuperTech MP. If it has fiber end caps then it's a basic SuperTech.

I guess i should look carefully at the Honda 15400-PLM-A02 (Fram in a blue can) that I currently use, I don't accumulate them any longer, I supply the oil, dealer supplies the filter. I'll go to the parts counter next visit and take a look. They've had a silicone ADV, metal core and fiber end caps as long as I can remember, supposed to built to Honda specifications but have never found any real specs on the actual filter fiber used or filtration efficiency. UOA's have always shown very low particle counts. Dangerous to "assume" anything these days. Before Honda discontinued the 15400-PLM-A01 (?) Made by Filtech, that was my filter of choice, it was a well built filter.

E-core is good. My concern is the extra thickness of the e-core plastic compared to a metal cylinder leading to a slight loss of filtering surface area. More filters to cut open and compare, I guess

I bought the Fram PH4967 for $4. Then I cut one open. The ecore tube is wide, and they also slimmed down the element a lot. So the depth of the pleats was pathetic. They also in the PH reduced the height of the can to match the Toyota N1.

Will be informative to see what they did to the XG, it should have a thicker adbv than the PH, and will have better media. I have an XG4967 made in 2024 on a car, and it has a metal center tube with louvers.

I wouldn't bother cutting it open; I you looked into the center core, That 97,5%
Do you have a lab to analyze the excised media?

Just run the thing for crying out loud!

Fram is FB/Trico now. The old heyday of wire backed ultra is no more.

Sorry for the emotion, I just hit the tipping point of all this oil filter hand wringing 🤪

Picked up an xg4967 at Walmart yesterday and noticed it was an e-core. Media looks different from what I've seen in ultra's before and the cage is too. I'm used to seeing pinkish, beige or sometimes the white material but I haven't seen the material from a ph in an ultra. Won't know exactly what it is until I cut it open but I tried getting the best pictures I could.

Honestly don't know what to think about fram now a days as my regular filters regularly change center tube, filter media and qc issues I can visibly see from the outside.

Looks like a regular AC Delco because that’s what the inside of a AC Delco looks like
