Fear
Uncertainty &
Doubt

I will watch with an open (I hope) mind...but the E-Core has me worried
confused.gif
...not because I WANT to be worried but because of what I am reading...standing by...

PS COuld our two main antagonists in this issue (you know who you are) just have a foot race and the confidence nod goes to the winner

...I am so BAD when it comes to dealing with uncertainty...

So you have a denfinite disposition when it comes to uncertainty?? That's the type of conviction we like to see. It inspires confidence.

Gary,

I don't think I have trouble with uncertainty; well maybe I do, but then again, I might not; you know it is just so hard to determine what someone means by uncertainty because the meaning of the word is so...well...it's just so...uncertain, but I'm not sure I mean that...

So...should I be certain that we are uncertain in our opinions about E-core filters or is the nature of our information just too uncertain

Yeah, I suspect the tree-swingers thought along the same line as you regarding us when our forebears swung down for the last time... I can hear the chuckling from the dim past, even now: "Nah, they'll never survive, the dumb schmucks. No claws, no natural defenses or protection from the elements, can't run fer crap; shoot, look at the hairless weenies - bad enough they're butt-ugly, but they're also already startin' to roast in the sunlight. Boy, oh boy, did Ma Nature ever screw up big time with that lot! WHOA! did you see that?! Talk about "snack time" - ol' Hairless, over there never saw that big cat a'comin'!"

...but if the big cat doesn't get me first, should I be worried about the E-core?

Are they the same scientists that invented the E-Core? Come on guys....all I want is reasonable assurance that E-Core is a good thing and that Champion is still...um-m-m-m...well...a champion.

I'm completly impressed with the e-core. I just installed one aprox. 200 miles ago and my truck sounds 100% better on startup then it did with the old supertechs which sounded 10000% better than the pure-one's I was running. I've used the same oil for all of the filters (free durablend 5w30) so that can't be the difference. I'm not saying the filter isn't destroyed on the inside or that it'll still sound good at 3,000 miles, but for starters it's got me hooked.

Thanks for starting me down the path...

Yes, accusations have been made ..a challenge! ..and yes, someone has stepped forth to "Champion" the accused...

Don't know why I didn't do this before, but I went to the ECore website...I like what I saw and read...

It is a compelling and timely advancement in filter construction. It appears that there have been bugs in the manufacturing process early on here ..but I think we'll find a few more success stories when members are forced to buy them or a $10-12 M1 when they find that their favorite OEM filter is indeed an Ecore.

I was looking at a GM/Saturn filter for the GM L81 V6.
The filter itself is marked as a Hengst E610H. It is a
cartridge type filter. It has a plastic cage like the
E-core, and very tough plastic endcaps which you can't
pull off with your hands.

I couldn't figure out how they were bonded. After reading
your post, it is obvious that Hengst is using a similar
bonding technology (and a very similar filter design).
The Hengst endcaps are plastic, but a very tough
non-brittle plastic, almost like hard rubber.

i need to see the bonding strengthened and a more reliable gasket used before I buy anymore. I'm stockpiled on non-Ecore ACs and Motorcrafts. Hopefully within a couple years, all the Ecore bugs will vanish.

The Ecores looked good to me at first, a canned version of the good looking cartridge filters that have accumulated a fair history of problem free performance. Then somebody posted a picture of one that looked different from both the cartridge elements, and the ecore website. They showed a soft, thin, white felt like material easily pealing away from the filter media. Nobody really challenged that picture aside from saying it wouldn't happen. An unused filter element has a hard, black, plastic like endcap firmly bonded to the media. Since they are not available in my numbers, I have not bought an Ecore my self. I would like to know what is going on.

I just cut a profile of a element end cap. It seems to have a textured plastic outer surface, and black plastic ridges of plastic rising about a 1/16'' to meet the filter media. I can't pull them apart with pliers. It is a very different structure of the traditional paper glued to a metal end cap. The 2 look different when pulled apart with the needle nose pliers.

if the faa were to investigate e-cores as possible culprits in airplane crashes, how many people do you think would fly on planes of commuter aircraft that used them? I've been using champion lab filters for several years but will switch to carquest at next oil change.an oil filter CAUSING foreign object damage. imagine that.97 astro 200k and going strong
