Dumping PP; can i reuse the filter for diff. oil?

My mileage dropped on the last tank due to:

1. Higher ambient temps. I turned on the a/c.
2. Wind. High crosswinds causing increased drag on the freeway.
3. Heavy foot. On overpasses and hills it takes more foot to maintain speed with the a/c on and the crosswinds.

I think synthetic is a good choice for these summer conditions so PP and M1 should provide exactly the same mpg.

I love these 06VTECH threads. . .

I had changed my oil 5 times in a month while testing different oils and asked the forum the same question and most agreed for me to keep using my oil filters since they were M1 Ext. for 15k use and Amsoil 25k filters. I think you will be fine and I will be replacing my filters on the next OCI though.

I am just going to leave it in there and hope it doesn't screw up the synergy I built up.

Before I knew anything about cars and started coming to BITOG for the first time ever: I believed that different oils caused different RPMs and had a huge impact on engine temperature. I also made every excuse in the world to change my oil out every chance I could based on little sounds, noises, and feelings while driving. (The engine didn't start as easily - the oil must be sludged!!!)

Now, having spent time on BITOG, reading some technical data... I've become a lot wiser and a whole lot less worried about my car. Oil is Oil is Oil. They all perform about the same - the differences are close to splitting hairs... Long as you change your oil regularly your engine will outlast your car's body/frame (with a sound engine of course).

There is no way in the world that oil is having this much affect on your car. Granted - different oils DO make your engine sound different (at idle and operating speed). But you cannot make any factual basis about your engine from sound and feeling alone.

Also... I have used a ScanGuage I/II for several years now. I drive 220 miles a day and I've done that for a year (Yes, thats over 60,000 miles in a year). Miles per gallon can be influenced by so many factors that unless you're running a ScanGuage and doing everything exactly the same ... you cannot make *any* assumption about your MPG. My MPG is NEVER the same as the day before. One day it will be 35MPG there and 39MPG back... next day it will be 33 MPG there and 36MPG back. Sometimes it varies up to 5+ MPG due to light traffic or wind direction and the cell phone idiot pulling in your lane. So... 1mpg loss is nothing to worry about.

I get basically the SAME MPG with Amsoil XL 5w30 (almost a 20 weight!) and GC 0w30 (heavy oil!). Wanna know what makes the biggest change in MPG? How I drive and how light I am on the gas and brake.

So yeah... ok back to eating lunch.

I was running PP for almost 3k and switched to M1 5w-30 Extended Performance. My engine is quieter and smoother on acceleration.

Thanks. I am half way there and ready to dump PP. PP sucks..it doesn't rev better at all even compared to blend..and it's supposed to be the superior GRP III .. well compared to MC anyway. Gas mileage sucks cuz it's thicker and even though it shears less, it uses more gas. I am ready to dump it at 1.5k instead of waiting for 3k. 19 mpg sucks. I lost more then 5 mpg with PP. WTH.

as far as all these other trolls posting about others. they need a life instead of writing a biography on where and what I do online. Needless to say, I am flattered.

Get the cSt @ 100c stats - the smaller the number the lighter the oil will be in your engine. So a lighter oil will allow your engine to rev higher/smoother than a heavier oil.

In my 2.2L Ecotec - GC 0w30 (basically a 40 weight) - Engine does NOT want to rev past 3,000 rpms and complains past that. But with Amsoil XL 5w30 (basically a 20 weight) - the engine feels free with no resistance up to 6,000 rpms.

Yes, technically a heavier oil will cause your engine to consume more gasoline. If I was you - I'd switch it out right now when you get back from work.

Now this is an interesting statement. How exactly does such an oil suck? It seems to be highly regarded in the industry based on my research.

This is one of the longest threads I've seen on a topic that is so a$$-backwards... Where do you come up with these ideas anyway?

I can't believe this thread has reached two pages. Why do you guys entertain him by answering? He comes up with some of the most ridiculous non-fact based #@$%! I've ever seen. (And no I'm not answering him right now. Just making a general observation.)
