For ///M applications, has there even been a thread on the Break in Oil/Diff to confirm whether it's thicker, thinner or just the same oil....but they just want to dump out what metal has come off at the break in oil change mile marker.

I stated thicker, thinner and the same as I don't even know which of the 3 I have read is there correct answer. I figured it anyone has done a analysis, it would be here over at Bitog

Which vintage? I seem to remember that factory fill 5w30 used with some M-engines was no different than the 5w30 used in the non-M engines until BMW required TWS 10w60 for the S54/S62/S65/S85.

The S55/S63 went with 0w40 then 0w30.

You can do a UOA search and see what pops up. Filter by age obviously.

M-cars always received a LSD so the diff fluid would obviously be different.

G Series for example. 1200 mile . Just can't seem to find a thread that has confirmed if it's the same oil or is there indeed a special break in oil.
