dumb % math question?

What is 125% of 5000 kms to extend OCI, is it 1250kms to make total of 6250kms ?, is 200% of 5000 kms then 5000 kms (double to total of 10,000kms)? I am moving the decimal point of ---% two points left (-.--) and multiplying by 5000, if I am right or off track on my math then please let me know, unsure, thanks.

Correct. percent literally means per 100. So 125 percent means 125/100.

This way is easier.

5000 X 1.25 = 6250

1.25 = 125%

You are extending your OCI by 25%

25% (or 1/4) of 5000 is 1250; add that to 5000.

I suspect the 100% part of 125% bollucks you all up.

Thanks all, never took 3 digit percentages in school 4 decades ago, only the (.--%) values so I applied this two decimal point rule to the current 3 digit percent values and apparently lucked out on this hunch according to all your replies. Now I know I am on right track in OCI extention %'s in reading oil product information etc, thanks.
