. . . and The Era of the Buick (2007-present) may be coming to an end.
A local dealer with a good rep has a 2008 Mercedes E320 Bluetec, the V-6 diesel, steel gray over beige MB-Tex. It has 87K miles, but I've looked into the records; everything was done by the MB book at an MB dealer in Loozyana until 48K miles. Then it was registered in the Northshore town of Covington, by, the seller says, a medical sales rep who drove it. A lot. (Clearly, to have put almost 30K miles on it in a little more than a year.) The car is, to put it mildly, gorgeous.
I drove it over part of my regular commute route this evening. It feels and looks new, drives tautly but not harshly, and everything seems to work fine. I'll have my long-time mechanic, who works on these and has high praise for 'em, check it over tomorrow.
Yes, I loved it. The weird thing is, when I got back into my Buick, I enjoyed its smooth serenity just as much! The Benz feels athletic; the Buick, relaxed and broken in. Not broken down or worn out (it just turned 100K miles), just relaxed. Always in the past when it came time to change cars, I was ready. The old car would be either totaled, worn out, breaking down, or I was sick of looking at it. Not true this time.
So I'll see what Kevin reports, and then what the dealer will go for. But this time, if the deal falls through, I can walk back out to the Buick with no regrets. (I wish I could keep both, but it won't go.)
Have you ever been in a situation like this? "Torn Between Two Lovers," so to speak?
