I think Mazzy Star might have the most beautiful woman's voice I've ever heard. This song is hauntingly down.

Likewise, Gary Jules "Mad World" featured on Donnie Darko movie and in a very effective Gears of War video game commercial. Great song, about being down and out, open to interpretation.

I do, and even the Tears for Fears member(s) said he did it better than they did. A while back I saw a (now old) interview where one or two of the members essentially said he did it better. Or words to that impact.
I think Jules voice is better, but more importantly Jules tempo is slower and more fitting. I've also thought Jules sounded similar to Michael Stipes of REM, who has an incredible voice. To T&F credit they wrote it, but their tempo is far too up beat and fast for this song. JMO. YMMV>
