I think the "new" Domino's pizza is good (not great), but not significantly better than any other chain and not really any better than what it replaced. A lot of chains equate good taste with piling on flavors. They add tons of butter, garlic, etc. to make up for a not so great dough and sauce. All of the chains are guilty of this. I got some Papa John's the other night...the bread sticks came in a grease tray, I guess to hold all the excess grease, and were soaked with this grease and "seasoning."
The main benefit of chains is that they will stay open late. Otherwise, you are much better off getting pizza from a small independent restaurant if quality is what you are after. There's a place down the road from me called N.Y.P.D. Pizza and another called Brooklyn's Pizza that blow any chain out of the water and are pretty closely priced...you just have to order before 9:30.
