Does the dmv not update on the weekend?

It says vehicle registration in process when I attempted to renew my registration today. I called the inspection place and got my safety inspection (diesel truck) and then went to renew the registration online a little bit later on today and it says it's in process and to contact dmv. I think I picked the wrong county when I did it and it doesn't let me go backwards. The inspection station said it's because it's the weekend and they don't update it on the weekend. I doubt it because i've driven down to the walmart parking lot and got the registration 5 minutes after they gave it to me in the past. opinions? So now monday morning, once again i'm not going to get anything done because I have to waste my time with this nonsense and go down there.

Could it be that the system is updated overnight? Here in Utah, criminal checks for CCW permits are all checked each night. It may be that the inspection check system is on a different server system than the DMV, and they pull data overnight.

Idk, this has never been an issue for me. Guess I can try and renew another vehicle I get all three renewals at the same time emailed to me. Now I have to login to view them for some reason. Never had to before

I assume you paid online? If so, it might have to wait until the bank runs the payment in batch at some point monday? Banks don't run payments on weekend - there in a hold condition.

Does your bank account for the payment show it as cleared, or as pending?

No, it didn't let me get that far. Only put in the last 4 of the vin, plate number and county. Then it said it was in process or something like that and to see the dmv

You realize that DMVs are state-specific and no one knows what state you're referring to ?
Yeah, but it's the same system regardless of the state. I'm just asking if you're able to renew your registration on the weekend online

With 50 different state departments of motor vehicles, is your question intended to be applicable to all 50?

Or, was is your question about Illinois?

“The DMV” in your title does not apply to about 94% of the US population.

“The DMV” in Virginia, for example, or Florida, for example, does not have the problem that you experienced.

I see what you mean. Texas is the only state that has the registration on the windshield. I'm sure a few more do, but most just have a sticker on the license plate. I would still think they have to renew through the dmv website, or go down there in person, but it's like a half a day ordeal to do that

I have recently renewed car registrations on both the Florida and Virginia websites.

Both of them processed the transaction instantaneously, showed that the transaction was processed, and sent me the updated registration, including license plate stickers.

Very easy. No problems.

I own quite a few cars. I find that the websites for those two departments are simple, reliable, and effective.

Pretty big fan of being able to sit at my computer for 10 minutes versus driving to a local DMV office, sitting, waiting for my number to be called.

Both Virginia and Florida allow you to make a DMV appointment. However, the DMV, even with an appointment, is two hours out of my day by the time I drive there, check in, wait to be called, have the clerk handle it, and drive home.

Same here. I get three renewals sent to me at the same time, never had an issue until today. Just have to make sure you take your time and fill everything in correctly

The only thing that irritates me is I can't get them to change counties. That's going to cause issues with insurance one day when they ask why is it registered here when your address is the next county over?

Yes.
That does tend to improve just about anything one tends to do in life.

If you're lucky, they will have corrected your mistake for you when you receive the paperwork in a week or so.
Your address is based in one County, and most States I've ever lived in typically correct that issue for you.

I didn't make a mistake, I took a closer look this time picking the county, but I've picked the same county I live in as my drivers license the last three years or so and they don't change it.

In Ohio, I've been renewing online for a couple years and they've gotten much better (faster). For the past ~2-3 years, I do it online and the new stickers arrive by mail within about a week. I do remember a number of years previously that it took many weeks, to the point that I was concerned it wouldn't arrive on time. I contacted the BMV and they confirmed it was paid for and processed and "in the mail". They offered to email me a letter to keep in the car in case it didn't arrive in time and I happened to get pulled over for something.

As far as the physical BMV locations, they vary from fast and efficient to slow, rude, and hate-their-job employees. Luckily, the one closest to home and work is an excellent location....or was when I last went. I do the mail-order option purely for the convenience.
