All China stuff 600W https://www.highpowersupply.com/I don't recognize that PSU brand seems a little sus.
Ah - I thought it could be bypassed!A bad drive can absolutely stop a POST. I'm still leaning towards your power supply. Order a decent 500-600w unit from amazon, it will be here tomorrow and if it doesn't work, then you have the first piece of your next build![]()
This would just be standard ATXAh - I thought it could be bypassed!
what the heck form factor is this one? ATX??
If you just need something to get it going that's just good enough and will probably last as long as this system is still relevant this 600W thermaltake unit is on sale for $42, no-frills, no modular connections and no connectors for new video cards but for powering an existing system that just needs to last a little longer this should be fine. https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-Certified-Continuous-Active-PS-SPD-0600NPCWUS-W/dp/B014W3EMAOhttps://a.co/d/6koktOb
A lot of PC building components are cheap right now, power supply's unfortunately are not one of them. Sub $100 unit with a 10 year warranty is still pretty good.
Yeah, that's okay.I ordered this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087CDR14Z?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
Will it be OK?
If you don't intend on upgrading to a new high end GPU that requires the new connectors(which I don't see why you'd do that on an aging sklake machine anyways,) that should be fine.I ordered this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087CDR14Z?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Great point. All Skylake CPUs should have IGPs and it looks like your motherboard has video outputs for the IGP, so the video card could be removed for further testing.
Thought you were talking about the truckDoes the CPU have an iGP?
Did all this. No beeping but for sure, no RAM in, RED LED glowsNot sure if someone already suggested this but remove the 2032 battery for a good 10 minutes with the power supply unplugged. Hold the power button for 30 seconds or so to discharge the caps. Then put everything back and try again. Also, try removing both sticks of RAM and powering up, motherboard should beep 3 times for a memory error.
Go back through the thread. Got a couple sticks of RAM and a PSU on the way. I may try unplugging everything this afternoon or waiting until I try the new RAM and PSU tomorrow then if no help, well then MB/CPUMy random troubleshooting thoughts:
- Not a GPU issue since you're still not getting any video output with just the IGP.
- Doubt it's RAM. Bad RAM will not let you computer POST but having two go bad at the same time is rare. I've had some sticks go bad - but very rare compared to the other PC hardware and usually due to poor quality. I haven't had one brand-name stick go bad yet. I also find that RAM tends to die gradually as well, with an increasing amount of crashes leading up to complete failure. (are those G. Skills?)
- Could be PSU. Most PSUs I've come across will slowly fail instead of catastrophically (assuming no surges) but since it turns on, stays on, but doesn't post leads me to the next part:
- I'm thinking it's the motherboard because neither RAM sticks work. If not the motherboard, then the PSU.
Unplug everything that is not essential to turn the computer on and POST - so your SB ZX and every single cable and accessories including your CPU AIO, SATA ports including the boot disk, and other plugs. You should only have your CPU, 1 RAM stick, the power connections to the mobo and CPU, and front panel power connector. See if it POSTs after that (but don't leave it on for too long since the AIO is unplugged - we just want to see if it will get to POST first.)
Would you happen to have any other spare DDR4 RAM, PSU, or Z170-compatible CPU to try out?
Interesting.Your monitor said nothing?I had a bad HDMI cable not give a no signal or anything. PC would go into Windows, however my screen would be blank.
I was sure the GPU died.. but a simple cable change fixed everything. Makes sure nothing is loose as far as cables go.
Also change cables if you see chew marks![]()
With everything else you've tested I wouldn't be surprised at all if its the RAM. Is all the RAM the same make/model/speed as well? While it shouldn't matter I have seen some motherboards that are extremely picky and will not boot without the RAM all being identical. Normally it should just boot and go to the slowest speed the RAM is able to use but not always. I don't think you have mentioned the manufacturer of the motherboard but you may look into this as well.Go back through the thread. Got a couple sticks of RAM and a PSU on the way. No signal was not shown... I mean it was last year... so 95% sure. Monitor goes into power saving in 5min of no signal.. and does notInteresting.Your monitor said nothing?
My monitor says no signal when plugged in, when not plugged in it says "check HDMI cable" (don't ask me how I know this) - so I infer the cable itself is OK
