I was reading other posts about the Havoline Deposit Shield. Makes me think I could run their 10w30 year round with no worries of low temps here in central Illinois. I've really been a Valvoline All Climate user for most of my life and using it at the present time. And also use Castrol GTX at times as well. I know most people say any SM oil will do, but when you see the add pack of DS and its new MSDS, does it stand out over all over SM rated conventional oils?

The new Havoline 10w30 looks an awful lot like a 5w30 on paper. I'm curious to try it as well.
Another 10w30 with really good low temp pump and flow rates is Motorcraft (TropArtic) 10w30.

No. Does it rank up there with rest of the top-notch dinos? Yes. Pennzoil, Castrol, etc, they're all great. It's really difficult to discern which of these is 'better' than the other when the used oil analysis show all of them to provide excellent protection.

I am now running the TA synthetic blend now that the Havoline price went up.
I believe pre-DS Havoline stood out in the conventional oil world. Not that is was greater than the other big-name brands, but it was just as good. It stood out because while it did the job just as well, it was priced more competitively. My recent trip to Walmart indicates that this is no longer the case. It just means, to me, that in the 2 dollar/qt world of motor oil there is one more choice.

It'll be months before enough used oil analysis have come forth for comparison to the old Havoline. The brand's biggest claim to fame is it's extended oil life - in comparison to other dinos. Wear numbers with the old Havoline are similar to brands like Pennzoil, Motorcraft and Castrol GTX. Without hesitation, I would buy the old Havoline over Trop Artic. With hesitation, I would buy Motorcraft over Havoline - only because I do not extend my OCIs with non full synthetics.
Triple Se7en, if you do not extend your OCIs with non full synthetics, why not go with the cheapest of the group of non-synthetics? Surely any of these will go 3-5,000 miles.
Honestly believe your engine will be the one to decide that, personally.
I ALWAYS used Havoline in everything for years, then I got crazy - after coming here - and decided to try the free maxlife everyone talks about, and well, I find smoother operation happening in my test vehicle.

My take is that Havoline now considers themselves on a par with other oil retailers and not so much a bargain or discount brand. Likely, HDS will prove to be a *premium* product that is still a tad cheaper then name-brand blenders.
Mobil and Castrol have recently reformulated their conventional products and Havoline is now doing the same. As the price-point approaches $3, I'll tend to go with PP, as I need a solid 9000mi/3mo performance from every oil change.
Right now, I just put HDS is mine and MiL's cars. My car so I could re-use the existing filter and MiL's because of price.

The WM's around here only have limited quantities of the TA. I pretty much have to wipe them out everytime I go there just to keep the stock up. I have never seen anymore out than 20 quarts at a time of the 5w30.

I'm wondering how anyone can determine anything about DS since it's barely gotten cold from leaving the blender/refinery.

It weon't take long for a new DA Havoline UOA to appear. Some of the members here rack-up a ton of miles in no time at all.

The price of HDS will probably go back down some after a few used oil analysis are done and folks find out it ain't any better than the old stuff.
