Does anyone just drive the car anymore?

As someone said, might be an age thing. It is with me. I enjoy the sounds of the tires on changing surfaces, the sounds of the surrounding traffic on my commute. Self preservation is enhanced by using all our natural senses at once. Remembering and avoiding those known potholes on my usual route, playing time/speed/distance games as I go. But decades ago I many times drove from Houston to Albuquerque without once turning on the radio. Nowadays there's the fuel use display in my Prius to monitor for feedback as I try to maximize mileage AND stay out of people's way. NO hypermiling in traffic. Very rude..... Occasionally, a little Dave Brubeck or Stan Getz to relax.

I don't think I've ever driven my car without the radio on. I once had a car that had a broken radio. I brought a portable boom box with me till I put a new radio in. I even listened to the radio in my 66 Impala SS convertible. (In 1972).

I must be the minority at 22.... I have sent less than 50 texts while driving, most at lights, and rarely answer the phone while driving... too much rev range and low insurance rates to take advantage of

Most people I pass are looking down at their crotch, to the extent that you would not stare or smile at your genitals that hard unless you were on your phone..

Just drive the car. Am I the only one who does that?

I have a car specifically for those moments

From the induction noises of a 4in intake, to the catless downpipes, and out to the sweet piercing sharp exhaust note of the Comptech exhaust... Its difficult to shift before 3k in the Accord.

I haven't gone in for this cellular phone fad myself.

I go without the radio on occasion, but I don't even have a cell phone.

Yes.

I usually drive radio off and not talking on the phone. Both my cars have decent sounding engines at least Subaru 2.5 turbo flat four and whisper quiet Honda 3.7 VTEC v6 until you press the accelerator.

Sure. I usually drive with the radio off, I don't text (ever) and I never use the phone while driving.

I really don't care much about how the engine sounds, I just like the quiet of no background noise, no traffic and no distractions.

I do, sometimes. I like to listen for any potential new noises in my aging vehicle with 187k on it. Pretty soon I'll be back on the road hard-core every day so I'll be over 200k quickly and I get to actually do more maintenance vs. my cubefarm job in 2013.

Are you kidding? I think people drive just so they can talk on the phone or text...I can't remember the last time I saw a woman driving without being on the phone...

I usually have the radio on for some background noise. Usually sports talk radio but occasionally music.

I have hands free phone in my vehicle so I will answer/make a call if needed but I keep it short and if it gets complicated I pull over. No distracting lengthy conversations.

I don't text at all but even if I did I would never text while driving. Just stupid to do so.

My wife must go against the grain. She drives radio off enjoys rowing the gears on her turbo Subaru and drinking her tea with the peace of no kids in her in 45 min each way commute. She considers it solitude.

If you can't text, send emails, check your Facebook status, talk to your friends, and read the paper, while enroute to your job, what's the point of driving anyway?.Look how much you can get done just by sitting in one spot.,,

I do. I don't talk or text because it's dangerous. And lately the radio DJs have been annoying me, so for the last few months it's been just me and my thoughts. It's not so bad!
