This is almost as good as the sucking of the oil filters in the Walmart aisle thread a while back.

You know you've found a real oil filter "addict" when you see him smelling, licking, blowing and sucking on oil filters in the isle of the automotive parts store.

Then, if he does not live in California, I guess he would not neet to worry about cancer.

When I was in chemistry, they called that wafting. Lol

I got wafting vs. smelling drilled into into my head after jumping the gun on a 7th grade "identify the unknown chemical" lab. The unknown was ammonia

Geez, I don't smell oil filters. However I do like the smell of solvents. Especially lacquer thinners.

The one thing I cannot stand is when people sniff their food before they eat it. I was in a motel restaurant years ago the there was a mom, and what I think was her daughter and the daughter's boyfriend.

The daughter would stab her food with her fork and give it a good sniff. She did this before every bite. I mean, who needs to smell a strawberry?? It smells like a strawberry.

Yeah, I am a filter sniffer, oil sniffer. My favorite oil scent is STP, never use the stuff anymore but love the smell of it.

Both my daughter and I have to stroll through the tire section at Sam's club on every visit to get our new tire smell fix.

More common than you think LOL!

Reading this thread has forced me to admit that I sniff filters, too...but usually just before I install them, not in the aisle at Wally's...that would be wrong.

filter media huffing addicts.

Yep

I think it is because I want to see if it has possibly been
purchased before, found to be the incorrect part by the purchaser, returned and restocked sometimes folks will pre-fill the filter with a tiny bit of oil to help start ups so if I smell oil I'm pretty sure it was returned.

Guilty as charged. I actually tried to blow through the adbv and had the machine oil on my mouth. It does no t taste good.

Never sniffed a filter, but must admit that I really enjoy "that new tire smell". Anytime I have the opportunity to be in a Firestone / Discount Tire / Bike Shop, I breathe just a little deeper for few minutes.
