I found these A-Premium filters on Amazon and they look, at least in the 7317 size filter, to be made by premium guard. Same baseplate as the Microguard and Carquest filters, although with a rubber gasket instead of silicone. The pics also show the same spiral center tube with lots of large holes. Silicon ADBV and claims 99% efficiency with no micron rating. Great price at about $4.50/ filter.

Anyone using them?

I wouldn't use them on anything I cared about.

Oil filters are too important to gamble with an unknown brand to save a few bucks.

Maybe they are just fine? Maybe not?
That’s always a gamble! I’m 99% positive these are premium guard. Unless another company has a plant ripping them off!

I am always leery about the possibility of getting counterfeit filters when buying online. I would rather buy them straight from the store. In my case I now buy Carquest Premium filters directly from the Carquest location near my place (I can actually see the building right now as I look out my window!) They store all of their filters in the back so there is no chance of tampering as well like you often see at Walmart. And in my case I only pay $7.95 Canadian which is $5.44 US!

Showing just under $6 if you buy four filters but not sure if that is AFI Filter or not.., Base plate looks to have a different look to it on that lip/edge or maybe it is the lighting.

Not bad. But one can get the carquest R filters for 5-6 bucks and they always look good when cut open with lots of evenly spaced pleats, good glue, and metal caps.

.

Now that I look a little more definitely different base plate with this mystery A-Premium on top and AFI Filter produced PG Microgard Select below. This generic A-Premium has the much more pronounced rounded lip which the PG Filters do not have and look to have 5 crimps to PG 6. Also larger holes.

There are cut open Microguards and Carquest Blues with a baseplate like that that are Premium guards. They must use 2 different style base plates.

That is different from that A-Premium with the very rounded lip which looks like it has a little space under it.

So the consensus is the filters with the rounded lip are not premium guard? Cause there’s several cut open with the rounded lip from Carquest and Microguard.
