Wife has a 1998 Infinity QX4 V-6 4WD SUV with 119,000 miles on it. Runs well and uses no oil between changes. For the life of the vehicle it has had a steady diet of Conventional oil with Valvoline MaxLife 5w30 the last several years. No problem with the Valvoline MaxLife 5w30 always changed at Infinity/Nissan intervals at 3750 miles.

I was thinking about switching to 5W30 synthetic oil and increasing the OCI to 5000-6000 miles. Is this a good idea or should I not do this?

Thanks

I bet you could easily increase the OCI on the MaxLife to 5-6000 miles, or whatever the OM says. My rule of thumb is a good dino is good for whatever the OM says for normal use, synthetic is good for more miles.

MaxLife is available in a synthetic and semi-synthetic. So at a minimum you're already using a semi-synthetic. MaxLife has also shown that it can easily go 5k miles, so I say stick with the MaxLife and just start going to that 5k range and enjoy not having to do as many oil changes each year

I wouldn't change a thing. What you're doing is working.
