Hi, I am new to bitog (long time reader though).
anyhow is there any reason why diffrent manufacture oils but same 0w20, would perform diffrently in engines? one was running m1 and other car was running toyota motor oil both had vibration during idling and acceleration so i tried qs unltimate. since switching both are running smoother and getting better mpg.

driving habits are 50% short trips less then 5 miles. 50% highway.

gasoline has been from sam's club.

Not all 0w20s are the same. This also goes for 5w30, 10w30, 0w40, etc.....

There could be more zddp or etc... in the new oil that is quieting it down. The new oil could be a little thicker which is covering up a noise. There are a lot of possiblilities.

I know what you mean, I just put some Edge (SM) 0w20 in the hybrid, so far I have felt noticeable improvement in vibration. I stocked up while AAP has the sale this month. It is one expensive oil too...$8.99/qt. $31.99 for 5qt and a Bosch D+ so you save nearly $30 each deal.

I had no idea QS made a 0w. How much does it cost?

When going from one 5-20 to another, it is almost impossible to verify a real gas economy change.
Viscosity [thickness] is the main contributor.

Remember that any fresh oil makes the car seem smoother.

Same as PP 0W-20 if that is what the OP is referring to and not their much easier to get 5W-20.

I'm surprised he didn't notice a difference between the M1 0W-20 and Toyota 0W-20 since the Toyota oil is so much lighter; 30% even at room temp's.

But on balance I also think it is the placebo effect.

More zddp means a quieter engine?
Says who?
