Diesel Powered Motorcycle

I met a guy who had ridden one. he says they require a different riding style because they make power down low when they are lugging, completely different then riding a regular dirt bike that you rev up for more power. This was coming from a guy who normally rides a DR650. He had the same super tanker gas tank on his bike that they put on the HDT bikes, that's how we got into the conversation.
I believe that the USMC is currently riding them.
www.f1engineering.com makes some of the parts for it.

From the specs a 600cc bike that weighs 360 pounds is not bad and it get 90+ mpg at 55 and that's good but it's really slow, probably exactly what's needed for extended use, a lot of torque.

These bikes HIGHLY interest me. Tom Slick, what else can you tell us that your contact said about these bikes? They still do not have an actual production date for the commercially available model as of yet.

Being able to run on all of those fuels leaves the door wide open as to where you can fill up as well.

I read about it in diesel power magazine. I read that its only available to the government so far. The company plans to someday sell it to the public.

Royal Enfield Diesels have been made in India for decades.
There are also a bunch of Diesels sold in Germany, mostly with a sidecar with driven wheel.

Yeah, you do have a point there Tom. I'll keep checking back on this though, as I would absolutely get a kick out of riding a diesel cycle, and my daughter would love me for getting a cycle period!

Thanks for putting this site on the board Camu!!!

Of course you are welcome!...but I'd like to think Rudolf...I was always a diesel hater...that is until I started my present occupation...Have any of you ever driven a Kubota RTV? Three-cylinder diesel that puts out power the minute you mash the go pedal....and um...and then there was that night last August when a CSX AC6000 came across the pit...6000hp from a four-stroke Caterpillar...I have never been the same... And I was under the impression Europeans were driving diesels for the tax break...

HDT will be selling to the public in 2008. They previously ran their bike's on Mobil 1 Devlac 5w-40 and Mobil 1 0w30 but switched to Amsoil 0w-20 and 5w30 HDD S3k and saw a lot of improvements. When they are sold to consumers, they will be factory filled with Amsoil.

Coooooooool beans!

And Camu, tax break probably has nothing to do with it, it's all about the price of diesel vs. gasoline in Europe. But, the thought counts!! Maybe we can lobby for that over on this side of the pond?!?
