Did you know FRAM does oil testing?

Bet you the reports all say: We Recommend you change your filters more often...

I don't think it's completely blown out of proportion. If they offered a fair price for the filter, I'd go back to buying it. The problem is that there are better filters out there for the same price.

Even if the price was fair I wouldn't buy them. The insides look so cheap. I'll stick with a Wix. Some corporate schmucks got control of an American icon and cheaped it out. I don't like that.

I think this whole FRAM thing is absolutely ridiculous.

Yes, the FRAM Extra Guard filters may look "cheaper" on the inside than its competition, but we do not have any solid data proving that this design is inferior.

I'm certain that FRAM's Extra Guard filter performs just as well as a NAPA ProSelect, Purolator Premium Plus, Supertech or any entry-level filter. The market is simply too competitive for FRAM to cut corners.

Except for all the reported failures of them out there.

But filters such as the Proselect and Supertech, that have better build quality, are half the price of a Fram!

Buying a Fram oil filter is a stupid consumer decision, if one is informed about such things.

Do we have any evidence that their failure rate is significantly higher than the competition?

Build quality is subjective. What we need to see are controlled laboratory and real-world tests on filtration performance. The FRAM Extra Guard and its competition should be tested. Then we can let the numbers speak for themselves. Until then, we're just speculating and we're really making ourselves look dumb by making unsupported arguments against FRAM.

The Fram might not, and probably isn't as bad as we like to bash it to be.

But why pay more for a product that certainly appears to be inferior?

Two things I have noticed about Frams:

1- In all of the applications I have used them in, they have the worst time from start to full oil pressure of any filter brand used. i.e. dry starts longer than any other brand. Honda/Acura, Ford

2- In racing applications with street car engines, they cannot withstand high rpm pressure. rupture and leakage.

Signed,

Someone who had an Autolite spark plug blow out of his engine with the steel threads still in the block and had numerous Autolite wires go bad quick. Same company.

No more Honeywell anything. There are much better products out there for the same price.

possibly you should stroll down the the local Wally's put down the 2.88 for an ST filter-cut it open--examine the media--then retract your statement

Do a search. There's been reported failures of Frams. Not to mention the startup noise. One guy here posted a pic and the ADBV was all distorted and could never align with the baseplate to seal in the oil.

I have done so, many times. They're fine. The E-Cores are fine. Search for all the cut open filters from Bill In Utah here.

It's harder for me to tear apart the media of a Supertech and the end cap, then it is on a Fram.

Well, I guess you could say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

You're right. How soon can we expect your testing to be done and a report published?

What's this "we" stuff, wh..err, Critic?

I suppose..
