Did Spark Plugs

How many of you young whippersnappers ever dealt with points, condensers, coils, distributor caps, and copper core spark plugs that were supposed to last 10,000 miles, but usually needed to be changed at 6,000, and were subject to lead fouling?

But those Champion or AC plugs used to cost 50 cents each.
I had 2 cars that supposedly need cap, rotor, plug every 30k. After a while I just do it every 60k with plat plugs and ignore the cap and rotor. I did see some deposit on the cap's terminals and rotor did see some dark spot, but I just sand them off or scrap them off with a box cutter. Didn't have problem afterward. Maybe I would if I run mine to 6500rpm but with an automatic transmission they never run that high.

I forgot to include spark plug wires, with failing insulation.

My OEM one lasted 150k miles before manufacturer give me a free one along with oil change, plugs, cap and rotor, because somehow there are enough of them failing smog that they want to not get in trouble. The aftermarket one I got for $20 from rockauto lasted 30k before one of them got an insulator breakdown and turn into white powder.

OEM for those only afterward.

I Just Sold Set of Use Iridium Plugs from Original 2005 -2012 Volvo Motors - Marked Ford FoMoCo so why did Ford
Have Plugs Made by Denso in Their Turbo Motors - as back in 2005 as NGK - got Goofed On - by Industry sending out Quotes . .

OR - NGK's Spark Plug Engineering End FAILED - as they were selling & Recommending for 2 Years that it was A~OK
to Install 3/4" Plugs in 1" Deep Heads . . anyhow Denso got Contract with 1" Reach Plugs & Denso also had
Direct Access to Own Mining of Iridium .. ( Very Rare @ Time )

Ford had taken over Volvo and Ford already had enough Issues with Turbo Motors . . Perfect Storm . .

Anyhow Used Plugs 18,000 Miles on them OEM's from Early 2007 - Pulled in 2009 - Sold in 2026

I remember those old days, cap rotor wires and plugs every 30k or whatever.

Finally got around to doing plugs on our Toyota's, 105k and 125k. Not sure why, they sure looked fine to me, but eh, I can live with doing that every 5 years. Probably will only do twice. I just have to remember, the air filter isn't rated for 100k, for some reason I can never remember to do that every 30k. For some reason I think the hood shouldn't have to go up before 100k. Odd since I remember the days when 100k was considered "a pretty good run".

Near By just did His Toyota's Coil Packs at 155,000 . . Plugs etc. back in those Day Barely got 19K out of
Turbo Motors Plugs ( I Tuned Turbo ) I wanted to go Cooler Heat Range . . but I hung onto Old FoMoCo

Most asked Why - I just stated so Iridium had Tripled in Cost and You Thin Manufactures Place More of it
Into Plugs in Last 19 yrs ( Heck No ) . . back then Most of Plug Tip & Grounding strap were Higher Grades . .

Save the 50 cents and run them thru the sand blast cabinet.
