Decided to do an oil change on snow blower, an old MTD 2 stage 5hp Tecumseh. I wanted to use up some oil that I had on the shelf, so it got about 1/3 of its capacity from each of these oils: PHM 5w30, Castrol HM 5w30 and ST 30w. I know, time to ask now after I did it, but no biggie to change it out if it's not a good idea.

What does the owner's manual say? Likely it was 10W-30 and if so you'll be fine.

I want to say the manual said 5w30 is preferred for winter but 30w is ok too.

I've had a few Tecumsehs and all they seem to need is an adequate amount of oil.
Brand and grade don't seem to matter all that much, as with almost any splash lubed OPE.
I'd say you did fine and good on you for changing it.
You can also skip that for many years as long as the oil level is kept topped off.
Ask me how I know and shame on me.

I would imagine you'll never notice the difference if it's parked inside...heck, even if it's outside, it doesn't tend to snow a lot when it's super cold outside.

Summer is 30w if I remember correctly.
And yep been to Viroqua many times! Cool place. Love the scenery in this area, plus having Mt. LaCrosse is awesome too.

Sounds fine to me. Sadly, most people don't even change the oil in their snowblowers lol.
