To all the oil gurus out there with one of the new Dodge hemis-

I just wanted an opinion. I know that M1TSUV with the "old" 5W-40 weight really is a 40W at full temp. My '03 hemi is spec'd for 5w30. Will using the 5W-40 weight hurt anything besides mileage? Anyone out there using M1TSUV in a hemi engine? My engine is a hemi that's pre-5W20 . . .

Thanks-

Fitz

You'll probably notice a little higher than normal oil pressure than you did with 5w30. Unless it has a ton of miles on it, I'd stick with a 5w30 or 10w30 and add som Valvoline Synpower Oil Treatment if you want to thicken it up a bit.

I suspect that it will do well on the M1 T&S. Large displacement push rod engines seem to like a heavy 30wt or 40wt.

You will probably be better served to run a synthetic 5w30. I have an 05 hemi that requires 5w-20 and the M1 does fine.

Hey guys-thanks for the replies-

No, my Hemi was made before MDS came out, so my engine's spec'd for 5w30.

I was just wondering if anyone had any UOAs with these oils and the Hemi.

Here's a UOA of the 5.7L Hemi @ 16k on M1 10w30 (same year engine as yours):

The UOA section had a few other reports on Hemi's with 0w30 and 5w30, but they were all on brand new engines, so I'm not sure that they would be much help (but if you're interested, the oil sheared down pretty bad, and they all showed high copper, probably just breaking-in)
