2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Hemi Tick

I am chiming in late on this, but in my 2006. I get a slight tick at start up, only when using the 5w20. When I use the 10w30, it does not do this. This is a 2006 2500 Ram. They dont get the MDS because they are work trucks. I asked the dealer and he told me they use 10w30 in all the Non-MDS Hemi's since we are in Florida, it wont hurt a thing. Id try the 10w30 on your next change, it wont hurt.

This truck has been very reliable for the past five years and the only thing that failed is an exhaust stud and warped exhaust manifold. The dealer is replacing the parts under the warranty and I am very happy with the truck and the dealer. We have towed our 28 foot camper about 100 miles each weekend in the summer for the last 5 years with no ill effects. When it wasn't towing the camper it was used to tow our 3500 lb boat. This has been one of the best vehicles I have ever owned.

If the head came off than absolutely make sure they change both the oil and coolant. Most dealers don't actually do it( even if they bill it )but it should be done. I had to fight with the tech's when I worked dealer service/parts to get them to do it. I would do another oil change in a few hundred miles as well. Just how I do it anyway.

The truck is done and seems to be working great. Wonder how many people out there with the Hemi tick really have a warped exhaust manifold and not a lifter or valve problem?

I would change the oil again anyways. If maybe the tech wasn't clean, this way you are covered.

BTW, not that I am siding on dodge, but ford has their share of exhaust manifold stud issues on their modular engines. 98 marked the first year for a size reduction of the studs. Since then, they can break somtimes.

I plan on running the truck about 100 miles then I will change the coolant and the oil (Mobil 1 10w30 and the coolant Zerex G-5). Thanks to everyone for all the posts and I will keep everyone informed.

Smart move. Just make sure that AF is safe for a Chrysler. They use that HOAT [censored].

Yes, Zerex G-5 is the same as the Chrysler Red Coolant, but it cost less. It is available at NAPA.
